Williams named Patriot League Player of the Week
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Senior forward Alexa Williams was named the Patriot League Player of the Week, as announced by the League Monday. The Warren, Ohio native led Lehigh to a pair of victories last week as she averaged 19.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and shot 56 percent from the floor. The honor is Williams’ first of her career as the Mountain Hawks now sit in sole possession of second place in the Patriot League.
Williams opened the week Wednesday with her sixth double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds on 6-of-11 from the floor and helped anchor the interior defense in the second half in a 53-38 win at Bucknell. She also recorded a pair of blocks in the game to move her into 11th on the League’s all-time chart with 109.
In Saturday’s 68-55 over rival Lafayette, Williams scored a career-high 23 points while shooting 8-of-14 from the floor, surpassing her previous career high of 18 points which she tallied in last year’s Patriot League Championship game. Williams recorded two more blocks against the Leopards and was 7-of-11 from the foul line. She also added eight rebounds and is now one shy of 700 for her career which will make her the 23rd student-athlete in League history to achieve that next milestone.
Williams was also named College Sports Madness' Patriot League Player of the Week.
Williams leads Lehigh in points, rebounds, blocks and steals. Her 11.9 points per game rank sixth in the Patriot League and is first among seniors while her 9.6 rebounds lead the League and rank No. 36 in the Nation.
Williams also ranks in the Top 10 in several other categories. She leads the league in free throws made (103) and attempted (140), fourth in blocked shots (1.6), sixth in free-throw percentage (73.6) and sixth in steals (1.7).
Williams and the rest of the Mountain Hawks will look for their fourth straight Patriot League win as they travel to take on Navy Wednesday at 7 p.m.
