Williams earns second PL Player of the Week award

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - For the second time this season and of her career, Lehigh women’s basketball senior Alexa Williams has been named the Patriot League Female Player of the Week, as announced by the league Monday. Williams tied her career high with 23 points in a 75-73 comeback victory at Holy Cross Saturday as the Warren, Ohio native also set career highs in field goals made (10) and attempted (15).
 
Williams was part of a 15-0 run to end the game as she converted a key three-point play to pull Lehigh within one with 2:55 left to play against the Crusaders. Williams then set up junior Kelly Peterson’s three-pointer with just over a minute left that stood as the game-winning shot.
 
Williams finished with a pair of assists and two steals, including a critical theft in the final minute to help seal the victory for the Mountain Hawks.
 
Williams also finished with six rebounds, bringing her career total to 717 which places her 20th all-time in Patriot League history and is now seven rebounds shy of being No. 19 and 10 short of tying two other plays at No. 17.
 
Williams’ set her career high of 23 points on January 21st in a win over Lafayette.
 
The 6-3 forward has started all 22 games for Lehigh this season and leads the team in points, rebounds, blocks and steals. Her 12.0 ppg rank sixth in the league while her 9.1 rebounds are first. She also ranks third in free-throw percentage (73.9), fourth in blocked shots (1.5), sixth in steals (1.6) and eighth in field goal percentage (42.5).
 
In eight league games, she has averaged 14.5 points and 8.8 rebounds.
 
Lehigh (13-9, 6-2 PL) currently sits on sole possession of second place in the Patriot League, maintaining a one-game lead over Army and Navy.
           
Williams and the Mountain Hawks will try to pull within a game of first-place American (16-6, 8-0 PL) as Lehigh hosts the Eagles Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Stabler Arena.
