Mountain Hawks hit the road for three straight

Posted: January 27, 2009

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Mountain Hawks begin what is arguably the toughest portion of their schedule all year Wednesday night. Lehigh travels on the road for three league games, starting Wednesday at Bucknell, and finishing up with matchups at Holy Cross and American over the next two weeks. Lehigh has not faced three-consecutive road games since a four-game stretch back in November - where the Mountain Hawks went 3-1. The Brown and White carries two-straight victories into Wednesday’s game, rattling off home wins over Colgate and archrival Lafayette last week.

Wednesday’s game will pair up two of the best guards, statistically, in the Patriot League this season. Erica Prosser ranks second in the league with 15.30 points per game, trailing only Bucknell’s Amanda Brown (who averages 15.33 points per game). Brown is also the only player in the league averaging more assists than Prosser, with her 5.3 per game ahead of Prosser’s 4.6 per game.

The Mountain Hawks (15-5, 4-1) outscored the Leopards, 39-21, in the second half as they rolled to victory over their arch rival Saturday night. The Leopards were held scoreless for the first 4:51 of the second period, as the Mountain Hawks rattled off an 11-0 run to extend its lead to 45-30 and put the game away. Prosser scored 24 points; making it four-straight games the sophomore has eclipsed the 20-point mark. She also added five assists and four steals en route to earning her second-straight Patriot League Player of the Week award. It was the fourth time this season Prosser has won the award.

The Bison scored a season-high 86 points as they defeated Colgate 86-54 at Cotterell Court in Hamilton, N.Y. on Saturday. Cosima Hingham recorded a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds, and Amanda Brown set career highs in assists with 10 and steals with eight in the win. The Bison improved to 10-8 with the win, and come into the game with a 2-3 mark in league play.

Lehigh and Bucknell have played an even series in the history of the two programs. Lehigh maintains the slightest of edges, with a 31-30 lead in the 61 previous meetings. The Mountain Hawks come into the game winners of the last two games in the all-time series. Prior to last season, the Bison had been victorious in the previous three meetings including the last meeting in the postseason during the 2006 Patriot League Tournament. The squads have met three times in the tournament since Patriot League play began, with Lehigh winning two of those three postseason games. The Mountain Hawks are slightly below .500 under head coach Sue Troyan since 1995-96, with a 14-15 record.

Tipoff for Wednesday’s game is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Sojka Pavilion. Fans that cannot make it out to Lewisburg on Wednesday can listen to the game live on 91.3 WLVR (FM) and around the world on Lehighsports.com, with streaming provided by Yahoo! Sports.
