BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Patriot League released its All-League teams on Tuesday, and the Mountain Hawks had three different players named to the teams. Junior guard Tricia Smith and sophomore guard Alex Ross both earned second team honors, while freshman guard Erica Prosser was named to the All-Rookie team. This is the second time in her career Ross has earned All-League honors, as last year she was named to the All-Rookie team.
Ross had the single greatest three-point shooting season in Lehigh history, knocking down a school record 73 three’s. Throughout the course of the season, she moved into Lehigh’s top-ten for career three-pointers, and currently sits at sixth, with 112 for her career. She led the league with 2.52 three-pointers made per game, which ranked 34th in Division I. She was also 62nd in the country in three-point percentage, knocking down 37.2 percent of her shots from beyond the arc.
Smith earned her first All-League honors, after coming off a season ending injury in 2006-07. She was all over the court for the Mountain Hawks, leading the team in rebounding (6.4 per game) and third in scoring (9.1 per game). She was also second in the league in steals, with 2.10 per game, and recorded six steals in a game two times this year.
Smith was one of five players in the Patriot League to have three or more double-doubles, and the only Mountain Hawk to register one this season. All three of her double-doubles were critical to the team’s success, as they came in three Lehigh wins, with all three of the games decided by six points or less.
Prosser had the best scoring season by a Lehigh freshman in over eight years, averaging 9.6 points per game, which ranked second on the team and second among Patriot League freshman. She was also one of the top free throw shooters in the league, connecting on 74.4 percent of her shots, ranking seventh in the league and first among Patriot League freshman.
This past week, she received her first career Rookie of the Week award, averaging 14 and 3.5 assists per game against Bucknell and Holy Cross. She also tied her career high with five steals against the Crusaders, marking the third time this season she has recorded five steals in a game.
Lehigh plays Lafayette in the first round of the Patriot League Championships on Saturday, at Christl Arena in West Point, N.Y. The game can be heard on ESPN Radio 1230 and 1320 AM and Lehighsports.com, with streaming provided by Yahoo! Sports. Jeff Tourial will call the action, with tip-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
