Brown and White continue Nashville road trip

11/14/2009

NASHVILLE – The Mountain Hawks continue their stay in the Music City when they take on No. 20/22 Vanderbilt on Sunday afternoon in Memorial Gymnasium. Lehigh (1-0) is coming off a season opening 77-60 win over the Lipscomb Lady Bisons on Friday night. Vanderbilt, the defending SEC Tournament Champion, returns three of five starters from a team that won 26 games last season and made a NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearance.

Two Mountain Hawks had career nights on Friday as junior co-captain Erica Prosser led the way with a career-high in points (27) and three-pointers (5). Sophomore Alexa Williams recorded her first career double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds. The 15 rebounds are also a career-high for Williams, and she added a game-high six assists.

Lehigh is looking to start the season at 2-0 for the first time since the 1999-00 season and the Brown and White have a tall task in front of it with the nationally ranked Commodores. Vanderbilt had a scoring margin of 13.0 over its opponents in 2008-09 and the Commodores return their second leading scorer junior Hannah Tuomi (11.4 ppg).

The Mountain Hawks shot .360 from beyond the arc in their season opener with all nine of the three-pointers from senior Alex Ross (4) and Prosser. Lehigh out-rebounded Lipscomb 43 to 32 in its season opener.

Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m. EST Sunday afternoon from Memorial Gymnasium at Vanderbilt University. The game will be broadcast live on WLVR-FM (91.3) and Lehighsports.com with Jeff Tourial calling the action. The live coverage will begin at 2:30 p.m. EST
