Lehigh women’s basketball coach Sue Troyan announced the addition of four athletes that will comprise the team’s Class of 2017. Forwards Lexi Martins and Kiernan McCloskey and guards Kayla Burton and Kari Moffat will join the Mountain Hawks prior to the 2013-14 season. Lehigh will
be looking to capture its fourth 20-win season since 2008.
The fifth-seeded Lehigh women’s basketball team fought back from a 15-point first-half deficit, but couldn’t pull any closer than three as #4 Holy Cross defeated the Mountain Hawks 64-59 in the Patriot League Quarterfinals on Thursday evening. Lehigh had several chances in the second half to pull within a single possession, but the Crusaders continued to have an answer.
Riding wins in four of its last six games, the fifth-seeded Lehigh women’s basketball team will open the Patriot League Tournament on Thursday when it heads to Holy Cross to face the No. 4 seed Crusaders at 7 p.m. in the quarterfinals. The teams split the regular season series, with the Mountain Hawks taking the first game at the Hart Center 67-65 on a layup from sophomore Katie O’Reilly.
Senior Kelly Peterson and freshman Kerry Kinek were selected for academic and athletic Patriot League honors for the 2012-13 season, respectively the league announced Tuesday. Peterson earned a spot on the Academic All-Patriot League team, while Kinek was a unanimous selection for the All-Rookie team and voted to the All-Patriot League first team.
In its final regular season game, Lehigh fell to Army 62-52 Saturday at Christl Arena. Army outscored Lehigh 43-26 in the second half and held the Mountain Hawks offense scoreless from the field for the final 6:33 of the game. Lehigh drops to 14-15 overall and 6-8 in Patriot League action with the loss. The Mountain Hawks will be the No. 5 seed in the upcoming Patriot League Tournament.
