Lehigh celebrates 2012-13 school year with annual convocation
Lehigh Athletics held its annual Convocation Program on Monday, April 29 at Baker Hall inside the Zoellner Arts Center to look back on the significant team and individual accomplishments of the past year. The event featured a highlight video, recognition of student-athlete winners of Lehigh University awards and the announcement of winners of Lehigh’s departmental awards.

Lehigh’s season ends with hard-fought 64-59 defeat at Holy Cross
The fifth-seeded Lehigh women’s basketball team fought back from a 15-point first-half deficit, but couldn’t pull any closer than three as #4 Holy Cross defeated the Mountain Hawks 64-59 in the Patriot League Quarterfinals on Thursday evening. Lehigh had several chances in the second half to pull within a single possession, but the Crusaders continued to have an answer. Freshman Kerry Kinek scored a game-high 18 points while senior Becky Guman chipped in with 12.

Lehigh begins Patriot League Tournament at Holy Cross Thursday
Riding wins in four of its last six games, the fifth-seeded Lehigh women’s basketball team will open the Patriot League Tournament on Thursday when it heads to Holy Cross to face the No. 4 seed Crusaders at 7 p.m. in the quarterfinals. The teams split the regular season series, with the Mountain Hawks taking the first game at the Hart Center 67-65 on a layup from sophomore Katie O’Reilly as time expired. Lehigh looks to advance to the league semifinals for an eighth straight season.

Peterson and Kinek capture All-Patriot League honors
Senior Kelly Peterson and freshman Kerry Kinek were selected for academic and athletic Patriot League honors for the 2012-13 season, respectively the league announced Tuesday. Peterson earned a spot on the Academic All-Patriot League team, while Kinek was a unanimous selection for the All-Rookie team and voted to the All-Patriot League first team.

Lehigh falls to Army 62-52, will be No. 5 seed in PL Tournament
In its final regular season game, the Lehigh women’s basketball team fell to Army 62-52 Saturday at Christl Arena. Army outscored Lehigh 43-26 in the second half and held the Mountain Hawks offense scoreless from the field for the final 6:33 of the game. Lehigh drops to 14-15 overall and 6-8 in Patriot League action with the loss. The Mountain Hawks will be the No. 5 seed in the upcoming Patriot League Tournament.

Mountain Hawks round out regular season at Army Saturday
After having its four-game win streak halted at Navy Wednesday, the Lehigh women’s basketball team will wrap up its 2012-13 regular season at Army on Saturday. Tipoff from West Point is set for 1 p.m. With a win and some help, the Mountain Hawks could host a Patriot League Quarterfinal game for the fourth time in as many seasons. Regardless what happens Saturday, Lehigh can finish no lower than the #5 seed in the upcoming tournament which begins next week.

Offensive woes cost Lehigh in 49-34 loss at Navy
The Lehigh women’s basketball team saw its four game winning streak come to an end as the Mountain Hawks fell to league-leading Navy 49-34 Wednesday night at Alumni Hall. In a defensive battle, neither team shot better than 28 percent from the field, but 22 Lehigh turnovers led to 21 Navy points as the Mids pulled away in the second half.

Kinek earns third straight Patriot League Rookie of the Week award
Following two more standout performances, Lehigh women’s basketball freshman Kerry Kinek claimed her third consecutive Patriot League Rookie of the Week award and sixth of the season, as announced on Monday. The Whitehall, Pa. native finished with 27 points and 30 rebounds in a pair of double-digit wins against Bucknell and Lafayette. Included was a school and Patriot League record 22 rebounds at Bucknell Wednesday night.

Lehigh picks up 60-40 Senior Night win over Lafayette
The Lehigh women’s basketball team quickly opened a double-digit lead and wouldn’t look back as the Mountain Hawks cruised to a 60-40 Senior Night win over archrival Lafayette Saturday evening in Stabler Arena. Senior Becky Guman had 14 points and nine rebounds in a Senior Night to remember while freshman Kerry Kinek added 16 points and eight boards. The win gives Lehigh its fourth in a row as the Mountain Hawks move into a fourth-place tie with American.

Kinek breaks rebounding records in 49-37 win at Bucknell
Freshman Kerry Kinek grabbed a school and Patriot League record 22 rebounds, and added a team-high 11 points, to lead the Lehigh women’s basketball team to a big 49-37 win at Bucknell on Wednesday evening at Sojka Pavilion. Fifteen of Kinek’s rebounds came in the first half as the Mountain Hawks held the Bison to just eight points in the first stanza. The win is Lehigh’s third straight to improve to 13-13 and 5-6 in Patriot League play.

Mountain Hawks coast to 62-40 victory over Colgate
For the second straight game, the Lehigh women’s basketball team took the lead less than a minute into the contest and never looked back as the Mountain Hawks rolled to a 62-40 victory over the Colgate Raiders on Saturday night. On Play 4 Kay night, the Mountain Hawks raised $2,829 towards female cancer research and awareness, courtesy of Lehigh Gas.

Senior Becky Guman set a new career-high with 20 points, while freshman Kerry Kinek turned in her fourth-career double-double and 18th double figure performance with 20 points and 11 boards as the Lehigh women’s basketball team picked up a huge win over American on Wednesday night, 71-55. The Mountain Hawks broke a five-game losing streak on the season and a four-game skid against the Eagles with the victory.

Freshman Kerry Kinek claimed her fourth Patriot League Rookie of the Week award after her dropping a career-high 22 points against Holy Cross on Sunday. Kinek added seven boards and four blocks to her impressive 34 minutes on the floor, leading all scorers on the afternoon in what was her 17th double figure performance of the season.

Sharp second half shooting propels Holy Cross over Lehigh, 72-66
Three Mountain Hawks reached double figures including a career-high 22 points from freshman Kerry Kinek, but 75 percent shooting from beyond the arc in the second half helped Holy Cross to a 72-66 victory over the Lehigh women’s basketball team Sunday afternoon. Lehigh begins second half of PL play with Holy Cross
After a seven-day layoff, the Lehigh women’s basketball team will look to extend a 10-game winning streak over Holy Cross and complete a fifth straight season sweep of the Crusaders inside Stabler Arena on Sunday, February 10. Lehigh winter storm update: Saturday lacrosse events postponed
The strong winter storm that is expected to batter the northeast on Friday has forced the postponement of Saturday’s men’s lacrosse season-opener against Saint Joseph’s and the women’s lacrosse team’s scrimmage against La Salle. Both events will now take place on Sunday, beginning with the men’s lacrosse game, which will face-off at noon at the Ulrich Sports Complex.

Lehigh basketball teams visit local middle schools
The Mountain Hawks continued with their efforts to reach out to the community this past week by speaking and interacting with students at a pair of local middle schools. The Lehigh men’s and women’s basketball teams recently visited Nitschmann Middle School and Saucon Valley Middle School to speak to the students on subjects such as respect, commitment, teamwork and work ethic, among other topics, to stress what it takes to succeed on and off the court.

Kinek collects third Patriot League Rookie of the Week honor
Freshman Kerry Kinek garnered her third Anaconda Patriot League Rookie of the Week award after putting together two double-digit scoring performances this past week in wins against Mount St. Mary’s and NJIT. The weekly award is the third of Kinek’s young career as the Whitehall, Pa. native continues to lead the Mountain Hawks in scoring and rebounding.

Mountain Hawks best Columbia 58-33 for eighth win of season
In front of 3,586 students and teachers on Education Day, the Lehigh women’s basketball team (8-7) used a 15-point performance from sophomore Katie O’Reilly and a strong defensive effort to earn their eighth win over Columbia (2-11) on Monday afternoon. Lehigh held Columbia to just 25 percent from the field, forced 24 turnovers and registered 11 steals as the Mountain Hawks eclipsed the .500 plateau for the first time this season.

O’Reilly’s free throw gives Lehigh 46-45 victory over NJIT
With the game knotted at 45 and four seconds on the clock, sophomore Katie O’Reilly knocked down a crucial free throw to give the Lehigh women’s basketball team a 46-45 victory over NJIT on Saturday afternoon. The Mountain Hawks and Highlanders exchanged leads five times on the day, but in the end, Lehigh’s free throw shooting proved to be the difference for its seventh victory.
