Sharp second half shooting propels Holy Cross over Lehigh, 72-66
Three Mountain Hawks reached double figures including a career-high 22 points from freshman Kerry Kinek, but 75 percent shooting from beyond the arc in the second half helped Holy Cross to a 72-66 victory over the Lehigh women’s basketball team Sunday afternoon. Lehigh dropped its fifth straight and the first to the Crusaders since March 9, 2008. The Mountain Hawks will look to bounce back against American Wednesday night.

Lehigh begins second half of PL play with Holy Cross
After a seven-day layoff, the Lehigh women’s basketball team will look to extend a 10-game winning streak over Holy Cross and complete a fifth straight season sweep of the Crusaders inside Stabler Arena on Sunday, February 10. Lehigh will take on Holy Cross in a game to be aired on CBS Sports Network with Bob Socci and Amy Lawrence on the call at 2 p.m.

Lehigh winter storm update: Saturday lacrosse events postponed
The strong winter storm that is expected to batter the northeast on Friday has forced the postponement of Saturday’s men’s lacrosse season-opener against Saint Joseph’s and the women’s lacrosse team’s scrimmage against La Salle. Both events will now take place on Sunday, beginning with the men’s lacrosse game, which will face-off at noon at the Ulrich Sports Complex.

Clutch Black Knights edge Lehigh, 61-56
Despite a career-high 18 points from junior Lindsay Hoskins, the Lehigh women’s basketball team fell to Army on Wednesday night, 61-56. Hoskins shot 6-of-8 from the floor and 6-of-9 from the charity stripe, but the Black Knights edge the Mountain Hawks on 43 percent shooting and 21 points from senior Anna Simmers.

Mountain Hawks to host Black Knights in Saturday showdown
Looking for its third Patriot League victory, the Lehigh women’s basketball team will host the Black Knights of Army on Saturday night inside Stabler Arena for a 7 p.m. tip. The Mountain Hawks will hope to use their success on Saturday to hand Army its third Patriot League loss and also snap a three-game skid. Saturday’s game will feature the top two freshmen in the Patriot League in Lehigh’s Kerry Kinek and Army’s Kelsey Minato.

Hot shooting Mids sink Lehigh, 72-47
After connecting on 14 three-pointers and shooting 50 percent from the field, the Navy Midshipmen (12-9, 5-1 Patriot League) upended the Lehigh women’s basketball team (10-11, 2-4 Patriot League) by a final score of 72-47 Wednesday night. Freshman Kerry Kinek notched her ninth straight double digit performance with 15 points, but it wasn’t enough as the Mountain Hawks dropped their third straight contest.

Lehigh to host defending champ Navy Wednesday night
Reeling from a 68-52 loss to archrival Lafayette on Saturday, Lehigh will be in search of its first home Patriot League victory when it welcomes defending Patriot League champion and preseason favorite Navy into Stabler Arena Wednesday night. The Mountain Hawks will look for their 10th win over the last 12 meetings against the Mids and sixth of the last seven inside Stabler Arena.

Lehigh’s rally cut short as Mountain Hawks fall to Lafayette 68-52
After trailing by 13 at the half, the Lehigh women’s basketball team (10-10, 2-3 Patriot League) rallied to cut the Leopard lead to just five, but Lafayette (8-12, 1-4 Patriot League) was able to outlast the Mountain Hawks for its first Patriot League victory. Senior co-captain Becky Guman scored 13 second half points, but a strong effort on the boards and from the bench helped propel Lafayette to the win.

Lehigh travels to Easton for battle with rival Leopards
After losing to Bucknell on Wednesday night, the Lehigh women’s basketball team will turn look to continue success on the road when it travels to Easton, Pa. to take on crosstown rival Lafayette at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The Mountain Hawks have won four straight road games and will be searching for five inside Kirby Sports Center this weekend.

Despite 18 points and nine rebounds from freshman Kerry Kinek, the Lehigh women’s basketball team fell to Bucknell Wednesday night by a final score of 53-37. The Mountain Hawks’ offensive woes of the first half were too much to overcome as Lehigh dropped its second Patriot League tilt of the season.

Coming off its fourth consecutive road victory and second over a Patriot League opponent, the Lehigh women’s basketball team will host Bucknell on Wednesday, January 23 for a 7 p.m. tip-off. Junior Hilary Weaver lit up the scoreboard from beyond the arc with five treys while freshman Kerry Kinek tied a career-high with eight field goals as each poured in 18 points in Lehigh’s 70-62 victory over Colgate last Saturday.

Mountain Hawks set for Saturday showdown at Colgate
Following a hard-fought effort against American, the Lehigh women’s basketball team will look to get back to its “winning ways” when it travels to Hamilton, N.Y. for a match-up with the Raiders of Colgate on Saturday. The Mountain Hawks had won four straight before falling to American, but have won 13 of the last 14 tilts against the Raiders. Tip-off for Saturday’s game is 4 p.m. at Wesley M. Cotterall Court.

Despite freshman Kerry Kinek’s 19 points and nine rebounds, the Lehigh women’s basketball team fell to American on Wednesday night inside Stabler Arena, 62-56, snapping its four-game winning streak. Kinek’s 19 points tied a career-high, but 42 percent shooting from beyond the arc and 16 points off the bench helped the Eagles halt Lehigh’s 2013 streak.

Lehigh downs Holy Cross on a last second layup by O’Reilly
Senior co-captain Becky Guman found sophomore Katie O’Reilly under the basket with less than a second on the clock in a tie game to give the Lehigh women’s basketball team a 67-65 win for its first Patriot League victory of the season over Holy Cross. O’Reilly collected her first double-double and set a career-high with 17 points and 12 rebounds as she again shined for the Mountain Hawks.

Lehigh begins Patriot League play with a trip to Holy Cross
Riding a three-game winning streak, the Lehigh women’s basketball team will begin Patriot League play with a trip to Worcester, Mass. for a Saturday showdown with the Holy Cross Crusaders at 1 p.m. The Mountain Hawks finished up non-league play on Monday with a 58-33 victory over Columbia and will be looking for their second straight league opener win over the Crusaders after a 75-60 win a season ago.

Lehigh basketball teams visit local middle schools
The Mountain Hawks continued with their efforts to reach out to the community this past week by speaking and interacting with students at a pair of local middle schools. The Lehigh men’s and women’s basketball teams recently visited Nitschmann Middle School and Saucon Valley Middle School to speak to the students on subjects such as respect, commitment, teamwork and work ethic, among other topics, to stress what it takes to succeed on and off the court.

Kinek collects third Patriot League Rookie of the Week honor
Freshman Kerry Kinek garnered her third Anaconda Patriot League Rookie of the Week award after putting together two double-digit scoring performances this past week in wins against Mount St. Mary’s and NJIT. The weekly award is the third of Kinek’s young career as the Whitehall, Pa. native continues to lead the Mountain Hawks in scoring and rebounding.

Mountain Hawks best Columbia 58-33 for eighth win of season
In front of 3,586 students and teachers on Education Day, the Lehigh women’s basketball team (8-7) used a 15-point performance from sophomore Katie O’Reilly and a strong defensive effort to earn their eighth win over Columbia (2-11) on Monday afternoon. Lehigh held Columbia to just 25 percent from the field, forced 24 turnovers and registered 11 steals as the Mountain Hawks eclipsed the .500 plateau for the first time this season.
