Poole named Patriot League Volleyball Player of the Week
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – For the second time this season, junior Taylor Poole was named the Patriot League Volleyball Player of the Week, as announced by the league Monday. The Keller, Texas native led Lehigh to a 2-0 weekend which included a win Friday over Bucknell to help clinch the Mountain Hawks’ Patriot League Tournament berth and a victory Saturday over Colgate which put Lehigh in sole possession of third place.
In Friday’s match against Bucknell, Poole had seven kills and a stellar .545 attack percentage as Poole helped Lehigh clinch its second League Tournament appearance in three years. Poole’s effort also helped the Mountain Hawks sweep the Bison for the first time since 2002.
The following day, both Lehigh and Colgate entered its dual tied for third in the League standings. Thanks to Poole’s career-high 18 kills, the Mountain Hawks outlasted the Raiders in an exciting five-set match to give sole possession of third to Lehigh. Poole’s previous high was 14 in 2010. Her 33 attacks against Colgate was also a career high, surpassing her previous high of 32 which she achieved last season.
Poole’s career game helped Lehigh defeat Colgate for the first time since 2004.
After the pair of matches, Poole now has a .408 hitting percentage in League matches which ranks her first in the Patriot League and is 40 percentage points ahead of second place.
Poole and the rest of the Mountain Hawks will take the court for the final regular season weekend as it travels to take on first-place American Friday at 7 p.m. followed by Navy Saturday at 4 p.m. If Lehigh goes 2-0, the Mountain Hawks will assure themselves of no worse than the No. 3 seed in the Patriot League Tournament but depending on what else happens in the League, there is an outside chance Lehigh can win the Patriot League regular season title and earn the No. 1 seed.
