Lehigh welcomes Villanova in home opener

BETHELEHEM, Pa. – After seven straight road games to open the 2010 season, the Lehigh volleyball team will open the home portion of their schedule on Tuesday night against Villanova at 7 p.m. The Mountain Hawks are off to a 3-4 start this season, claiming victories over St. Francis (Pa.), Robert Morris and Radford.
 
Junior Angelika Kopacz leads the team with 85 kills in seven matches and is tied for the team lead with eight service aces. Junior Jessica Kudirka owns a team-best 141 assists, while freshman Rachel Charles paces the squad with 116 digs. Sophomore Taylor Poole boasts an impressive .339 hitting percentage and leads the Brown and White with five solo blocks. Freshman Amanda Clark has the most total blocks with two solo efforts and 20 block assists.
 
Villanova enters the match with a 4-3 record in 2010. Morgan Petkovich leads the Wildcats with 82 kills in seven matches, while Alyssa Anderson owns a team-high 136 assists. Anderson was named the Big East Freshman of the Week on Monday after averaging 10.6 assists per set in four matches last week, including a 55-assist, 17-dig effort against Penn.
 
Tuesday’s match will be the 29th all-time meeting between Villanova and Lehigh; the Wildcats hold a 22-6 edge overall. The teams last met in 2006 when Villanova prevailed by a 3-2 count at Leeman-Turner Arena. Villanova has defeated Lehigh in each of the last 12 meetings with Lehigh’s last win coming in 1985.
