BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After nearly two months away from the pool, the Lehigh swimming and diving teams will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. to take on the Marist Red Foxes at 1 p.m. The Mountain Hawks will look to continue the momentum from the fall semester as the Lehigh men posted a 7-0 record and the women swam to a 3-2 mark.
The fall semester ended with Lehigh sweeping rival Lafayette for the third straight year, November 19 in Easton. Since that point the
Mountain Hawks have been training hard at Jacobs Pool while also breaking for final exams and the holidays. Lehigh is currently in the midst of its winter training trip in Orlando, Fla. The Mountain Hawks will return to campus on Friday before heading up to Marist for the meet Saturday morning.
On the men’s side, junior Chris Toth enjoyed a first half of the season in the distance events, while sophomores Frank Cuzzola and Tyler Lareau have excelled in the sprint and backstroke events respectively. Lehigh has received a number of strong performances on the women’s side. Junior Priscilla Barletta has excelled the freestyle events, while sophomore Emily DiDonato is coming off two breaststroke wins versus Lafayette. Freshmen Meredith Bayer, Stephanie Yaszemski and Giovanna Patafio have all done well in early season meets for the Mountain Hawks as well.
Marist was last in action a month ago at the two-day H20unds Invitational hosted by Loyola (Md.). The Red Fox men defeated St. Peter’s but lost to Loyola and Iona to stand at 2-5 on the season. Marist’s women swept all three of those opponents to improve to 5-2.
Last season the teams split a meet at Jacobs Pool with Lehigh’s men prevailing 156-87 and the Marist women winning 141-102.
Saturday’s meet begins at 1 p.m. from McCann Natatorium.
