BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh swimming and diving teams will split their squads this weekend to compete in two meets on Saturday. With the Patriot League Championships now just three weeks away, Lehigh’s top swimmers will compete in a dual meet at Drexel, while the rest of the Mountain Hawks will swim at the Navy Invitational in Annapolis, Md.
Both Lehigh teams are looking to bounce back after dropping dual meets to Patriot League rivals Army and Bucknell over the last two weekends.
Lehigh’s women have gotten strong swims from freshman Alissa Leung and junior Emily DiDonato as of late. Both individuals won two events apiece to lead Lehigh against the Bison. The Mountain Hawks are 3-5 overall and will look for their first win of 2012.
The Lehigh men have lost two straight meets after a 7-0 start to the dual season. Senior Connor Styles led the Mountain Hawks against Bucknell, sweeping the one and three meter diving events on senior day. Lehigh will look for bounce back efforts from senior Kevin Shoemaker and sophomore Demetri Karedis among others as they look to establish momentum heading towards the league championships at Navy next month.
The Navy invitational begins Saturday at 10 a.m. at Lejeune Hall, the site of the Patriot League Championships. Lehigh and Navy will be joined by American, Bucknell, Lafayette and Shippensburg for a 34-event unscored meet.
Drexel’s men enter Saturday’s dual meet with a 5-2 record, while the Dragon women own a 2-6 mark. Saturday’s meet begins at 1 p.m. from Drexel Pool inside the Daskalakis Athletic Center.
Next weekend the Mountain Hawks will swim at Penn State before shifting focus to the Patriot League Championships, February 16-18 at Navy.
