Lehigh Lights the Night in support of swimming alumna Jill Rann

Posted: 10/16/2012
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - This past Saturday, October 13 marked another wonderful year to celebrate the health and prosperity of former Lehigh swimmer Jill Rann ’12. Members of the Lehigh swimming and diving program joined Rann and her family at the annual Light the Night Walk at Northampton Community College.

Light the Night Walk is a fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma society aimed at bringing aid and awareness to people battling blood cancer.

The walk is especially important to the Lehigh swimming and diving community because one of their own was affected by cancer in the past. Rann won her battle with Leukemia when she was just an age group swimmer.

This marks the third consecutive year that the group walked with Jill to celebrate her life. The men’s and women’s teams stood with survivors as well as family members who had lost loved ones. As each member of the team lit their red balloon and enjoyed the festivities, it reminded everyone just how lucky they were to be alive and in good health.

“It is always great to see Jill happy and healthy. She is very special to all of us!” said Lehigh head coach Rob Herb. “This event has become a mainstay for the team, we will be here each year to celebrate Jill and support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.”

Also joining the walk were alumni Jared Blacker ‘12, Ryan Helfrich ‘12 and Priscilla Barletta ‘12, wrestling alumnus Joe Kennedy ’12, Herb and his wife Alexandra.

The Mountain Hawks swimming and diving teams will dive into the water on Friday when they open the dual meet season against West Chester at 6 p.m. at Jacobs Pool.
