Waggy named Patriot League Rookie of the Week

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following a tremendous week at the plate, Lehigh freshman Cassie Waggy has earned Patriot League Rookie of the Week, as announced on Monday. Waggy earned the honor for the second time this season, hitting .471 as Lehigh split a midweek doubleheader at Northeast power Hofstra before taking three-of-four at Holy Cross to clinch a Patriot League Tournament berth.
The Manteca, Calif. native finished the week 8-of-17 with two doubles and six RBI. Waggy hit safely in five straight games to close the week, beginning in game two at Hofstra when she went 3-for-4 with three RBI. Lehigh beat the Pride, 7-6, to snap Hofstra’s 17-game winning streak.
Waggy went 5-for-11 with two doubles, a run scored and three RBI at Holy Cross as the Mountain Hawks took three-of-four against the Crusaders.
In addition, senior Jen Colquhoun earned honorable mention laurels, batting .526 with a home run, five RBI and six runs scored. Colquhoun tied a school record in game one against Hofstra, blasting her 13th home run of the season.
The Mountain Hawks returns to action on Wednesday for a doubleheader against Princeton beginning at 3:30 p.m. Lehigh will then host Colgate this weekend in a big series featuring the league’s first and second place teams (the Raiders are tied for second with Army, owning identical 9-3 league marks).
