BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh softball team will play four games this weekend at the Radford Invitational in Radford, Virginia. The Mountain Hawks will play two games apiece against Binghamton and Radford in the three-team, two-day tournament.
After a slow start to the season, Lehigh rebounded nicely over Spring Break at the Rebel Spring Games, going 7-3 to even its record at 8-8. Senior Jen Colquhoun and freshman Cassie Waggy received Patriot Weekly Award honors for their efforts during the week. Waggy led Lehigh with a .611 batting average, going 11-for-18 in ten games with six runs batted in. Colquhoun has been impressive all year long at the plate and batted .469 last week eith eight extra-base hits and nine RBI. Colquhoun was also named ECAC Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Waggy and Colquhoun rank 1-2 on the Mountain Hawks in batting, with Waggy hitting .458 overall in just 24 at-bats, while Colquhoun is at .444 with 12 RBI and ten extra base hits. Colquhoun is tied with classmate Julie Fernandez for the team lead in RBI. Fernandez is the third Mountain Hawk batting over .400 as she comes in at .423.
Freshman Emily Bausher enjoyed a strong week in the pitcher’s circle, going 4-1 with a 0.53 ERA, to lower her team-leading ERA to 1.70. Bausher no-hit South Dakota back on March 4 and has a team-best 56 strikeouts in 45.1 innings of work.
Binghamton enters the weekend at 6-8 but managed to win three of four games at last weekend’s Longwood Tournament with wins coming against North Carolina Central (twice) and Longwood. Lehigh won both meetings between the two teams last season and the JMU Invitational in Harrisonburg, Va.
Like Lehigh, Radford enters the weekend at 8-8. Radford has already played four games against nationally-ranked opponents this season and beat then-No.20 Florida State in one of those meetings. The Highlanders went 2-2 during their most recent tournament at the University of Hawaii.
Action for Lehigh at the Radford Invitational begins Saturday when the team opens against Binghamton at noon followed by a game against Radford at 2 p.m. The Mountain Hawks will return to action the following day against Binghamton at 10 a.m. and will close out tournament play at 2 p.m. against Radford.
