BETHLEHEM, Pa. – One day after no-hitting South Dakota for her first career win, Lehigh freshman Emily Bausher captured two of the three Patriot League softball awards announced Monday. Bausher was named Patriot League Pitcher and Rookie of the Week after her brilliant pitching performance, which helped Lehigh to a Sunday split at the Rebel Spring Games.
Despite pitching well at Lehigh’s season-opening effort at the Wolfpack Challenge in North Carolina, Bausher had just three hard-luck losses to show for her efforts. On Sunday in Florida, the New Jersey native made the most of her first career win, striking out 12 Coyotes in the seven-inning complete game. The only two South Dakota baserunners were Morgan Hancock, who reached on an error in the first inning, and Bre Zmolek, who drew a one-out walk in the second. Bausher retired 21 of the 23 batters she faced, including 17 straight to close out the game.
On Monday, Bausher earned the win in relief in Lehigh’s come-from-behind 12-5 win over the Coyotes. She has now appeared in six of Lehigh’s ten games in the circle, going 2-3 with a team-best 2.28 earned run average. Bausher has struck out 36 batters in 27.2 innings of work. She has appeared in the lineup as a pitcher, designated player or right fielder in all ten Lehigh games and owns three hits and three runs batted in.
Bausher and the Mountain Hawks will continue action at the Rebel Spring Games on Tuesday when they face Saint Francis (Pa.) at 9 a.m. and Detroit at 1 p.m.
