Lehigh set to open softball season at Wolfpack Challenge
The Lehigh softball team will begin its quest to top last season’s success with six games over a four-day span at the Wolfpack Challenge in North Carolina. The Mountain Hawks will open against North Carolina State Thursday at 6 p.m. and will play Kent State and Pittsburgh on Friday, Toledo and Pittsburgh again on Saturday, and cap their weekend with a match-up against Georgetown on Sunday.

Mountain Hawks add Thursday night tilt at NC State to schedule
The Lehigh softball team will open its 2012 season one day earlier than expected as the Mountain Hawks have added an extra game against North Carolina State, Thursday at 6 p.m. at Curtis and Jaqueline Dail Softball Stadium. The Mountain Hawks are slated to play five additional games in Raleigh, N.C. as part of the Wolfpack Challenge.

Season preview: Lehigh softball seeks return trip to NCAA tournament
Following a disappointing end to its 2010 season, the Lehigh softball program reclaimed its position atop the Patriot League in 2011. The Mountain Hawks won 33 games, and after entering the tournament as the No. 2 seed, rolled to their 11th Patriot League Championship and earned their sixth NCAA regional berth in the last eight years. With most of last year’s key contributors returning, expectations remain high for Lehigh to pursue another league title in 2012.

Fernandez named a candidate for Lowe's senior CLASS award
Lehigh senior first baseman Julie Fernandez has been named as one of 30 candidates for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award. The award encompasses community, classroom, character and competition. A two-year captain for the Mountain Hawks, Fernandez has excelled in all four areas as one of the top hitters and first basemen in the region and as a behavioral neuroscience major with her sights set on medical school.

Lehigh tabbed for repeat in Patriot League preseason poll
After reclaiming its perch atop the Patriot League in softball in 2011, Lehigh was picked to repeat as Patriot League champions in 2012, as the league announced its softball preseason poll Wednesday. The Mountain Hawks garnered 48 points and eight out of 12 first place votes to edge Colgate in the poll, which was voted on by the league’s head coaches and sports information directors.

Mountain Hawks continue strong work with SALSC
Lehigh student-athletes are continuing their strong work with Student-Athletes Leading Social Change (SALSC), highlighted by the third-annual “Jail Bail” Phone-A-Thon held last Friday (Jan. 20) in Taylor Gym. Angelo DiGiacinto (swimming) and Liz Lucas (softball) are this year’s leaders while a number of additional student-athletes are heavily involved as well.
