Softball sophomores step up in wake of Superstorm Sandy
The effects of Hurricane Sandy had an effect on many people in the northeast, specifically in the state of New Jersey. A number of people lost property or had property damaged by the storm. At Lehigh, some students returned home after a week of classes were cancelled. Others simply waited out the storm. For the sophomores on the softball team, the storm provided an opportunity to help those in need along the Jersey shore.

Lehigh softball wraps up successful fall campaign
The Lehigh softball team finished a strong fall season last weekend with a pair of wins over Rutgers to push their record to 7-0-1. The Mountain Hawks followed their Patriot League Championship season in the spring with the stellar fall campaign that will help them prepare for a run at the 2013 league championship in the spring.

Defending champion Mountain Hawks open fall slate this weekend
The Lehigh softball team will begins its fall season on Sunday when the Mountain Hawks host Kutztown in a doubleheader. The first game is set to start at noon at Kaufman Field. The two-time defending Patriot League champions will also host Delaware in a doubleheader on September 23. On Saturday September 29 the Mountain Hawks will take part in the Carol Weil Tournament, where they will play two games against teams that have not yet been determined.

Troyan adds Delahaba to softball coaching staff
Lehigh head coach Fran Troyan has announced the addition of former Villanova standout pitcher Caitlyn Delahaba to the Mountain Hawks’ softball coaching staff. She joins the two-time defending Patriot League champions following an outstanding four-year career for the Wildcats.

Troyan welcomes five in softball class of 2016
Lehigh head coach Fran Troyan has announced the addition of five student-athletes that will join the Mountain Hawks program in the fall. The Mountain Hawks captured their 12th Patriot League title in 2012 and advanced to the NCAA Regional tournament for the seventh time in the last nine years. All five members of the incoming class are field players, as Lehigh looks to replace an accomplished group of four seniors lost to graduation.

Record 11 Mountain Hawks named Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars
A record 11 Lehigh student-athletes were recently recognized as recipients of the 2012 Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholar Award as named earlier this week by Diverse Issues in Higher Education. Eight different Lehigh athletic programs are represented, including men’s and women’s cross country and track and field, men’s and women’s lacrosse, women’s golf, women’s swimming and diving, women’s soccer and softball.

Colquhoun named ECAC Player of the Year; Wood an All-Star
Lehigh shortstop Jen Colquhoun capped one of the finest all-around single seasons in school history by being named ECAC Player of the Year and a first team ECAC All-Star on Wednesday. Colquhoun adds these new accolades to an impressive list that already includes Patriot League Player of the Year, first team NFCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region and first team Academic All-American.

Lehigh places 93 women on Patriot League Academic Honor Roll
As part of a week-long celebration of the 40th anniversary of Title IX, the Patriot League announced all seven of its women’s winter/spring Academic Honor Rolls on Wednesday. Lehigh was well represented as the Mountain Hawks accounted for 93 of the over 650 women’s student-athletes named to the honor roll.

Fernandez named Lowe's Senior All-American
Lehigh softball standout Julie Fernandez ’12 has been named to the Lowe’s Senior All-American second team, it was announced Friday. The announcement came Friday on day two of the NCAA Women’s College World Series. In April, Fernandez was named one of ten finalists for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award. Five finalists were named to the first team, while Fernandez and four others were named to the second team.

Softball hands out team awards following championship season
The Lehigh softball team enjoyed another outstanding season in 2012, one which culminated in the program’s second straight Patriot League Championship and its seventh in the last nine years. The Mountain Hawks won at least 30 games for the 12th straight year and posted the fourth 40-win season in school history. Following the completion of Lehigh’s Regional run, head coach Fran Troyan announced his team award winners for the 2012 season.

Colquhoun named to Capital One Academic All-American first team
Lehigh senior shortstop Jen Colquhoun has been named to the Capital One Academic All-America first team, it was announced Thursday. The Patriot League Player of the Year, Colquhoun produced one of the finest offensive seasons in school and league history, and was also recognized for her work in the classroom, where she carries a 3.77 grade point average majoring in biochemistry.

Mountain Hawks' season ends with 9-2 loss to Oregon State
The Lehigh softball team saw its 2012 season come to an end Saturday with a 9-2 loss to Oregon State at the OU Softball Complex. Senior Jen Colquhoun went 2-for-3 in her final game in the Brown and White, but the Beavers’ Elizabeth Santana went 2-for-2 with five RBI as Oregon State raced to an early 6-0 lead before holding off a fourth-inning Mountain Hawk rally.

No. 4 Oklahoma proves too strong for Lehigh in regional opener
The Oklahoma Sooners proved why they are one of the nation’s top teams as the fourth-seeded Sooners used a 13-run second inning to defeat Lehigh 19-3 in five innings Friday night in both teams’ opening game in the Norman Regional. Junior Liz Lucas belted a three-run home run to account for Lehigh’s runs as the Mountain Hawks fall to 40-18 on the season.

Lehigh makes final preparations for Friday showdown vs. No. 4 Oklahoma

Lehigh heads to Oklahoma for seventh NCAA appearance in nine years
For the seventh time in nine seasons, Lehigh has earned the Patriot League’s automatic berth into the NCAA Regional Tournament. The Mountain Hawks head to Norman, Oklahoma to open regional play against the No. 4 national seed Oklahoma Sooners, marking the sixth time in eight NCAA appearances that the Mountain Hawks will open with a Big XII opponent. Lehigh posted three shutout wins to claim the league tournament title last weekend, claiming its second straight championship and 12th overall.

Mountain Hawks to open NCAA regionals at No. 4 Oklahoma
After capturing its second straight Patriot League title and seventh in the last nine years, the Lehigh softball team learned its NCAA Regional fate on Sunday. The Mountain Hawks are headed to Norman, Okla. to face the No. 4 national seed Oklahoma Sooners Friday at 7:30 p.m. (CT) at the OU Softball Complex. Oregon State and Tulsa are the two other teams in the region.

Bliss blanks Army 2-0 to lead Lehigh to second straight PL title
Junior Becca Bliss fired a two-hit shutout and junior Kristen Mitchell and freshman Cassie Waggy drove in runs as the Lehigh softball team won its second straight Patriot League Tournament title with a 2-0 win over Army Saturday at Kaufman Field. Bliss ties a Patriot League record with her tenth shutout of the season as Lehigh captures its 12th tournament title and seventh in the last nine years.

Lehigh one win from Patriot League title after 4-0 shutout of Army
Senior Julie Fernandez went 3-for-4 with two RBI and junior Becca Bliss fired a four-hit shutout as Lehigh advanced to the championship round of the Patriot League Tournament with a 4-0 win over Army Friday in a winner’s bracket game at Kaufman Field. The Mountain Hawks will face the Black Knights on Saturday needing just one win to claim their second straight tournament title.
