Patriot League announces rowing preseason poll

Posted: 03/25/2011
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – With the Lehigh rowing team set to begin its spring season this weekend the Patriot League announced its women’s rowing preseason poll on Friday. The Mountain Hawks were picked sixth in the poll with 12 points. The Patriot League preseason poll is voted on by the league’s head coaches and sports information directors.

Bucknell, winners of the last five Patriot League titles, will defend its crown April 24, at Lake Quinsigamond, in Worcester Mass. The Patriot League Championships were held there from 2005 to 2007 before being moved to the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J. The Bison were followed in the poll by Navy, Colgate, Holy Cross, and MIT with Lehigh rounding out the field.

Under the direction of first-year head coach Brian Conley, the Mountain Hawks resume their season Saturday at the Murphy Cup, which is held in Philadelphia. Patriot League foes Bucknell, Colgate and Navy will also be competing in the Murphy Cup this weekend. The Mountain Hawks will see many of their Patriot League opponents in upcoming regattas leading up to the Patriot League Championships.

The Mountain Hawks come into the spring season ready to build upon a strong fall season in which they won five races at the Frostbite Regatta and two gold medals the next day at the Braxton Regatta.

Last year the Women’s Varsity team had a strong outing at the Murphy Cup. The Women’s Varsity Pair placed second in the final.

Action for Lehigh at the Murphy Cup begins Sunday at 9 a.m.
