BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh rowing team looks to build off an impressive showing at the Neuweiler Plate when it competes in the two-day Knecht Cup this weekend. Action kicks off on Saturday and will run into Sunday morning.
“This is a good tune up for what to expect at Dad Vails - with needing to qualify to advance and understanding what our minds and bodies will need to do in order to be successful at the end of the year,” said Conley.
Last weekend, the Mountain Hawks captured first place in five races while placing in five others to win the Neuweiler Plate team trophy. Leading the way were dominant first-place finishes in the Women’s Varsity Eight and Men’s Freshmen Eight.
“We used the confidence we gained from last week to have a solid week of practice because we know that anything can happen on race day and we want to be prepared,” said Conley. “We also know that while those results were good, we still have to stay focused on the goal and work to achieve those goals.”
Also competing at the Knecht Cup are a number of teams Lehigh rowed against at the Murphy Cup along with strong crews from UNC, Trinity, Buffalo and Marietta, among others.
This weekend serves as a final tuneup before the Lehigh River Cup against Lafayette next Saturday (Apr. 16).
“It’s important to have a good showing [this weekend] as we take the River Cup as serious as our championship races,” said Conley. The team wants to make sure that the River Cup stays here in Bethlehem.”
