Lehigh wraps up fall with strong effort at Braxton Regatta

Posted: 11/13/2011
CAMDEN, N.J. - The Lehigh rowing team wrapped up its fall season on Sunday with an impressive effort at the Braxton Regatta. The Mountain Hawks saw five crews post top-three finishes to lead the way. In the process, Lehigh wrapped up a successful fall season as focus now shifts into winter training before the spring campaign begins in March.
“I think overall, the team had a really good weekend, especially today with the women doing so well with three medals,” said Lehigh head coach Brian Conley. “It’s always a good weekend when medals come home.”

The Women’s Varsity Eight finished first in its flight with a time of 7:36.10, nearly 10 seconds better than second-place Philadelphia (7:45.66). The Freshmen Eight also won the first flight with a time of 8:16.19 while rounding out the women’s medalists was the JV Eight (9:40.64).

The men made their mark as well, with the Varsity Eight finishing third (6:21.29) while two different flights of the Freshmen Eight came in third and fourth, respectively.

The Braxton Regatta came 24 hours after Lehigh rowed in the Frostbite Regatta. The Mountain Hawks performed well despite the short rest.

“They were able to make changes between race days, which ensured their boats went as fast as possible, which is the goal,” said Conley.

The Mountain Hawks now shift into their winter training in preparation for the spring, which begins with the Murphy Cup on Mar. 24.

“I think we are where we want to be based off where we started,” said Conley. “With the results this past weekend, we go into winter training knowing what we need to work on to put ourselves in medal contention in the spring.”
