CAMDEN COUNTY, N.J. - The Lehigh women’s rowing team placed fifth Sunday in the Patriot League Championship with nine points. The Mountain Hawks’ finish was one place higher than last year. The women’s 2V 8+ boat placed fifth with a time of 7:29.91 to lead the way.
"Overall, I really think we did a great job considering we had a couple illnesses within the team," said head coach Brian Conley. "I had to change the lineups a little bit last minute. All the crews raced the best they possibly could; it was good. Moving up from the rankings as we’ve done the past couple years, you can never be upset with improvement."
The women’s varsity 4+ placed sixth with a time of 9:41.09 while the women’s varsity 8+ placed sixth with an impressive time of 7:22.89.
"I think the Varsity Eight had probably the best race that they’ve ever had," Conley said. "I think they raced incredibly brave. It was awesome."
Bucknell won its seventh straight Championship with 34 points. Navy (29) placed second, MIT (25) third and Holy Cross was fourth (20). After Lehigh, it was Colgate (8) placing sixth.
"I think with the improvement, the team now realizes that all the work they’re putting in does pay off," Conley said. "It’s worth it day in and day out to come in and train for a goal. Now they know they can hang with the rest of the league. It’s one step towards the ultimate goal of being where they want to be - at the top."
Lehigh will next compete at the Dad Vail Regatta on Schuylkill River in Philadelphia on May 11 through May 12.
