BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh cross country teams were ranked in the top-15 in the Mid-Atlantic Region on Monday, as announced in the latest USTFCCCA Division I rankings. The men’s squad moved up one place to No. 14 after finishing first out of eight teams at the Lehigh Invitational on September 3, while the women’s team debuted at No. 12 in the ranks after finishing second out of nine at the same event.
Lehigh is one of four Patriot League men’s teams to grace the Mid Atlantic top-15, including Navy (No. 4), American (No. 5) and Bucknell (No. 11). Villanova was ranked first in this week’s release, supplanting Georgetown, which fell to third. On the women’s side, only Bucknell (No. 8) and Navy (No. 10) are ranked higher than Lehigh among Patriot League teams. Villanova also held the top spot in the women’s rankings.
Junior Evan Flach paced the Mountain Hawks in the Lehigh Invitational with a first-place finish in the race. Flach was one of five Lehigh runners to finish in the top-10, including freshmen Tyler Mueller and Jimmy Miller, senior Steve Sample and sophomore Lyle O’Brien.
Junior Katherine Pierce gave the women’s team a boost with a second-place finish, while seniors Andrea Mascaro and Kaitlin Grimm also crossed the line in the top-10.
The Mountain Hawks will return to action on Saturday at the Iona Meet of Champs in the Bronx, N.Y. The women’s race is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. with the men’s race set to follow at 10:15 a.m.
