Lehigh Athletics held its annual Convocation Program on Monday, April 30 at Baker Hall inside the Zoellner Arts Center to look back on the significant team and individual accomplishments of the past year. The event featured a highlight video, and the announcement of winners of Lehigh’s departmental awards.
The Lehigh men’s cross country team has placed 11 student-athletes on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, which is tied for the second most in the league. Sophomore business major Ryan Knouse led the Mountain Hawks with a 4.00 GPA while senior bioengineering major Evan Flach achieved a 3.96 GPA to cap off a stellar cross country season on and off the course.
Following his 13th-place finish at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Qualifiers, senior Evans Kosgei earned All-Region honors for the third straight year. The USTFCCCA recognized 450 athletes that earned All-Region awards for Division I cross country for athletes that finished in the Top 25 individually at one of the nine regional sites. Kosgei paced Lehigh in the 10,000-meter race with a time of 30:52.3.
The Lehigh men’s cross country team placed 11th at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Qualifiers with 358 points behind a 13th-place finish from senior Evans Kosgei who finished the 10,000-meter race in 30:52.3. Kosgei will now wait for Sunday’s announcement to find out if he received an NCAA at-large bid as he will be looking for his second straight NCAA appearance.
The Lehigh men’s cross country team will compete at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Qualifying race on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Princess Anne, Md. The Mountain Hawks will look to cap off a successful season by hoping to improve upon their current No. 10 ranking in the region. Lehigh finished 15th last year led by Evans Kosgei who finished 13th, becoming the first ever Lehigh men’s qualifier in the new format.
