Lehigh kicks off outdoor season Saturday at Big 5 Invite
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men’s track and field teams will kick of its outdoor season Saturday at the second annual Big 5 Invitational in Philadelphia, hosted by Penn. The Mountain Hawks will compete against the likes of host Penn, Villanova, LaSalle, Temple, Columbia, and Haverford.
On Thursday, it was announced that Lehigh was picked to finish fourth in the Patriot League after finishing fourth at the 2011 Patriot League Outdoor Championships.
The team is coming off a solid indoor season in which 21 student-athletes earned berths to the IC4A Championships. Senior Stephen Tutunjian earned All-East honors, placing eighth in the long jump after being named the Male Field Athlete of the Meet, earning first team all-league honors at the Patriot League Indoor Championships. Senior Kyle Forrest earned second team all-league honors for his second place performance in the heptathlon.
Tutunjian had a stellar outdoor season last year in route to qualifying for the NCAA Regionals and will look for similar success this season. Senior Evans Kosgei will look to do the same as he also qualified for NCAAs in 2011.
The field portion of the invite will begin at 10:30 a.m. while the track events are scheduled to begin at 3:15 p.m. All events will take place at Penn’s historic Franklin Field.
Lehigh returns to Franklin Field later in the season for the Penn Relays on April 26.
