Lehigh in fourth place after day one at PL Championships

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Lehigh men’s track field team has completed the first day at the Patriot League Championships and currently sits in fourth place. There were some stellar performances highlighted by the 10,000-meter run where Evans Kosgei placed second as his time was the second fastest in Patriot League history. The final day will get underway Saturday at 11 a.m.
Lehigh finished the day with 18 points – 12 coming from one event. Navy sits in first with 56 points while Army (49) and Colgate (32) are ahead of the Mountain Hawks. Colgate is fifth (10), Lafayette sixth (8) and American and Holy Cross (6) are tied for seventh.
Evans Kosgei placed second in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 30:16.81, the second fastest time in Patriot League history. Tyler Mueller finished fifth in the event with a time of 30:40.75 for the fifth fastest time in league history. The duo combined to earn 12 points in the event for the Mountain Hawks.
Steve Tutunjian scored six points for his third-place finish in the long jump with a distance of 6.88m.
Benjamin Beauchamp placed 12th in the hammer throw, but set a personal record with a distance of 47.54m.
Lehigh also got a great effort out of its 4X800-meter relay team which placed fifth with a time of 7:39.53.
Lehigh also had a few qualify for finals tomorrow. Martin Otieno sits in third headed into the 100-meter final and will also be in the 200-meter final in fourth. Monroe also qualified for finals in the 200m final in eighth.
Seth Robinson is currently in fifth position headed into the finals of the 110-meter hurdles.
In the decathlon - which will be completed tomorrow - lehigh has three in the top four. Alexander Maurer is in second with 3,462 points while Kyle Forrest (3,441) is in third and Ryan Paquin is in fourth (3,354).
