Kosgei wins second straight PL Track Athlete of the Week award

Posted: 04/30/2012
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – For the second consecutive week, senior Evans Kosgei was named the Patriot League Track Athlete of the Week, announced by the league Monday. Kosgei placed 10th in the Championship race of the 5000m event at the prestigious Penn Relays, posting an IC4A qualifying time while breaking a 36-year-old school record.

Kosgei’s time of 14:30.10 broke the previous school record of 14:12.44 which was set by Wayne Rogers in 1976.  Kosgei’s time also qualified him for the IC4A Championships - surpassing the 14:36.00 needed to qualify - and will be held May 11-13 at Princeton University.

Kosgei earned the same award last week after breaking the school record in the 3000m Steeplechase, which will also probably be good enough for a bid to the NCAA Championship.

Kosgei and the rest of the Mountain Hawks will be back in action this weekend as Lehigh heads to Worcester, Mass. to compete in the Patriot League Championships.
