Gaul garners Patriot League’s Male Field Athlete of the Week honor

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh sophomore Derek Gaul captured the men’s Patriot League Field Athlete of the Week award following his strong performance in Friday’s Fast Times Before Finals meet. The event was held in Rauch Field House as the Mountain Hawks competed against Penn, Alvernia, Ursinus, West Chester, Rider, Bloomsburg, East Stroudsburg, Desales, Lock Haven, Lafayette and Millersville.
Gaul finished second out of a field of 20 athletes in the long jump with an effort of 6.99 meters. His jump was just .03 meters shy of the IC4A qualifying mark of 7.02 meters and was .08 meters higher than his next closest competitor.
Also a member of Lehigh’s football team, Gaul’s long jump event in the Fast Times before Finals Meet was the first track and field event of his Lehigh career. Gaul and the Mountain Hawks now have over a month off until their next event, a Jan. 12 trip to Army.
