BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following a five-week break, the Lehigh track and field team will travel to Navy on Saturday for the Navy Invitational. All competition will take place at the Wesley A. Brown Fieldhouse at the United States Naval Academy.
The Midshipmen will host six teams: Lehigh, American, Maryland Eastern Shore, Mount St. Mary’s and North Carolina-Wilmington, as Lehigh looks to build on what has been a successful start to the 2010-11 season.
Lehigh brought home four awards for the second straight week back on December 13, when sophomore E’Lana Lemon and freshman Ryan Paquin repeated as Women’s Field Athlete and Men’s Rookie of the Week respectively. In addition sophomore Chris Buck was named Male Field Athlete of the week and Anna Obed who was named Women’s Rookie of the Week.
Lemon has competed in two meets this season and has won the weight throw in both of them. Obed led the Mountain Hawk women to a sweep of the throwing events at the Lehigh Fast Times Before Finals meet, as she captured the shot put with a throw of 12.75 meters.
On the men’s side, Paquin followed up his win in the heptathlon at Lehigh Valley Season Opener by placing second in the 60 meter hurdles and the long jump at the Lehigh Fast Times Before Finals meet. Paquin finished the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.61 last time out, which placed him second overall, but first among attached college competitors. He experienced similar results in the long jump, placing second overall with a jump of 6.73 meters, but finished .06 meters behind the unattached winner Stephen Lewis.
Action on Saturday begins with the field events at 11 a.m. inside the Wesley A. Brown Fieldhouse. Track events will begin at approximately 11:15.
