Gaul garners Patriot League’s Male Field Athlete of the Week honor
Lehigh sophomore Derek Gaul captured the men’s Patriot League Field Athlete of the Week award following his strong performance in Friday’s Fast Times Before Finals meet. The event was held in Rauch Field House as the Mountain Hawks competed against Penn, Alvernia, Ursinus, West Chester, Rider, Bloomsburg, East Stroudsburg, Desales, Lock Haven, Lafayette and Millersville.

Lehigh completes Fast Times Before Finals meet
The Lehigh men’s track and field team followed its strong showing at the Season Opener with yet another solid performance at the Fast Times Before Finals meet on Friday night inside Rauch Fieldhouse. Lehigh starts with success at Season Opener
Lehigh’s men’s track and field team began its indoor season with a successful Season Opener that included six first-place finishers, a number of personal records and a solid foundation for what could amount to an extremely strong 2012-13 season. The Mountain Hawks featured a first-place by sophomore Benjamin Beauchamp in the weight throw with a distance of 15.83 meters.

Men picked fourth, women third in track and field indoor preseason poll
The Lehigh men’s and women’s track and field teams were picked to finish fourth and third in the Patriot League’s preseason poll released on Friday. Last season, the Lehigh men finished fourth at the Indoor Patriot League Championships, while the women finished third. Lehigh begins its indoor season tonight with the Lehigh Season Opener inside Rauch Fieldhouse at 5 p.m.

Rauch Fieldhouse renovations feature Wall of Champions unveiling
A crowd of nearly 250 gathered at Rauch Fieldhouse on Saturday, September 29 to celebrate the facility’s renovations and to honor alumnus Ken Jones ’83. The ribbon-cutting event was attended by current and former track and field athletes and coaches; and friends, family members, and fraternity brothers of Ken Jones, a former track and field student-athlete and member of Chi Psi fraternity, who passed away in May 2011.

Kosgei, Forrest named to Division I All-Academic USTFCCCA Team
Evans Kosgei and Kyle Forrest were named to the Division I All-Academic U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Team. It is Kosgei’s second straight year named to the team while Forrest earned an Academic All-Patriot League nod last year. The duo was among 431 student-athletes from 148 institutions named to the team.

Record 11 Mountain Hawks named Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars
A record 11 Lehigh student-athletes were recently recognized as recipients of the 2012 Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholar Award as named earlier this week by Diverse Issues in Higher Education. Eight different Lehigh athletic programs are represented, including men’s and women’s cross country and track and field, men’s and women’s lacrosse, women’s golf, women’s swimming and diving, women’s soccer and softball.

Lehigh men’s track and field places 19 on Honor Roll
The Lehigh men’s track and field team landed 19 student-athletes on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, announced on Tuesday, capping off an impressive season on and off the track. The Mountain Hawks finished fourth in the Patriot League Championships, had a NCAA First Round qualifier and an Academic All-Patriot League member.

Kosgei places 14th at NCAA First Round Friday
Senior Evans Kosgei placed 14th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA First Round Friday to complete a historic season and career. The Moiben, Kenya native crossed the finish line with a time of 8:49.29, crushing his previous school record of 8:52.41. Kosgei placed fourth in his heat and fell just short of a top 12 finish which would have qualified him for the NCAA Championships.

Kosgei earns bid to NCAA First Round for second straight year
Lehigh track and field senior Evans Kogei will participate in the 2012 NCAA East Regional which will be held in Jacksonville, Fla. on the campus of the University of North Florida on May 24-26. Kosgei will compete in the 3000-meter steeplechase Friday at 8:50 p.m. Kosgei is the school record holder in the event and competed in the same 3000m steeplechase in last year's NCAA Regional.

Forrest earns All-East honors at IC4A Championships
Lehigh men’s track and field senior Kyle Forrest earned All-East honors for the at the IC4A Championships over the weekend. Forrest placed fourth in the decathlon with 6,477 points to earn five points for the Mountain Hawks, which placed tied for 41st overall. Forrest finished first in the 1500m run (4:20.08) and the 400m run (50.10) and was second in the high jump (1.89m).

Forrest named to Academic All-Patriot League Team
Lehigh track and field senior co-captain Kyle Forrest was named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team, as announced by the league Friday. Forrest earns his third Academic All-League nod as the Accounting major has a 3.60 GPA. Forrest was also a Second Team All-Patriot League performer this season.

Lehigh set to compete at IC4A Championships this weekend
In its final meet of the outdoor season, the Lehigh men’s track and field team will compete at the IC4A Championships Friday through Sunday in Princeton, N.J. The Mountain Hawks will send 21 student-athletes to the meet as they will try to qualify for the NCAA Regionals and earn All-East honors. Lehigh is coming off a fourth place finish at the Patriot League Outdoor Championships last weekend.

Mountain Hawks finish fourth at PL Outdoor Championships
For the second year in a row, the Lehigh men’s track and field team placed fourth at the Patriot League Outdoor Championships. The Mountain Hawks had some stellar performances on the final day highlighted by three second place finishes. Kyle Forrest was second in the decathlon with 6,531 points, the second most in Patriot League Outdoor Championships history.

The Lehigh men’s track field team has completed the first day at the Patriot League Championships and currently sits in fourth place. There were some stellar performances highlighted by the 10,000-meter run where Evans Kosgei placed second as his time was the second fastest in Patriot League history. The Lehigh men’s track and field team will head to Worcester, Mass. this weekend to compete in the Patriot League Outdoor Championships. The Mountain Hawks have had a stellar outdoor season and will look to continue to ride that momentum into the meet they have been training for all season. For the second consecutive week, senior Evans Kosgei was named the Patriot League Track Athlete of the Week, announced by the league Monday. Kosgei placed 10th in the Championship race of the 5000m event at the prestigious Penn Relays, posting an IC4A qualifying time while breaking a 36-year-old school record.

Kosgei finished eighth in the 3,000 steeplechase at the Larry Ellis Memorial in Princeton, N.J. where he posted an IC4A time of 8:52.41. Mahoney named Patriot League Rookie of the Week
Lehigh track and field freshman Justin Mahoney was named the Patriot League track and field rookie of the week, as announced by the league Monday. The North Baldwin, N.Y. native was part of the 4X100m relay team that took first at the Moravian College Coach Pollard Invitational with an IC4A qualifying time while the time also set a new meet record. Mahoney also finished second in the 400m dash.

Mountain Hawks defeat Lafayette, 112-91
The Lehigh men’s track and field team enjoyed a strong effort at Lafayette Saturday, defeating the archrival Leopards in a dual meet, 112-91. The Mountain Hawks won 10 events on the day to continue their success against Lafayette; it’s been two full years since the squad’s last loss to the Leopards (including indoor and outdoor).

The Lehigh men’s track and field team is set to visit Lafayette this Saturday to faceoff in a dual meet with action getting underway at 12:00 p.m. Lehigh swept the indoor dual meet with Lafayette in January as the Mountain Hawks haven’t lost to the Leopards in outdoor or indoor competition since April 2010.

The Lehigh men’s track and field team placed fourth at the Lafayette 7 Way Sunday with 93 points. Christopher Buck won the hammer throw and also placed second in the shot put. Alexander Maurer won the long jump and had a second place in the high jump. Martin Otieno won his section in the 100m dash while Robert Hugin won his section in the 400m hurdles.

Lehigh opens spring with impressive showing at Big 5 Invite
The Lehigh men’s track and field team opened up its spring season Saturday with some impressive performances at the Big 5 Invitational, hosted by Penn. Ricky Okoye won the discus throw with an IC4A-qualfying distance of 45.72m while Donald Scatena took home his first collegiate victory as he placed first in the pole vault with a distance of 4.40m. Lehigh also had three second-place finishes.

The Lehigh men’s track and field teams will kick of its outdoor season Saturday at the second annual Big 5 Invitational in Philadelphia, hosted by Penn. The Mountain Hawks will compete against the likes of host Penn, Villanova, LaSalle, Temple, Columbia, and Haverford. Track and field senior Kyle Forrest was named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team, as announced Tuesday. An accounting major, the North Walpole, N.H. native carries a 3.60 GPA. Forrest has also enjoyed success on the track, earning Second Team All-Patriot League honors after placing second at the Patriot League Championships in the heptathlon with a personal record of 4,932 points.

The Lehigh men’s track and field team put together some great individual efforts to finish day two of the Patriot League Championships in a tie with Army for third place with 29 points. In its lone dual meet of the season, the Lehigh men’s track and field team defeated rival Lafayette 97-84 Saturday at Rauch Fieldhouse. While the Mountain Hawks only had seven first-place finishes in the 16 events, Lehigh used its depth its advantage. Lehigh won three track events and four field events, highlighted by junior Christopher Buck’s first place finishes in the shot put and weight throw.

The Lehigh men’s track and field team will host rival Lafayette Saturday in a dual meet that is set to begin at 2 p.m. at Rauch Fieldhouse. The Mountain Hawks will look to keep their momentum going as they are coming off a first-place finish at the Mountain Hawk Invite. The Lehigh men’s track and field team took home first place at the 13-team Mountain Hawk Invite. The two-day event finished on Saturday as the Mountain Hawks found themselves on top with a total of 202 points. Lehigh had a lot of standout performances including four new IC4A qualifiers while senior Stephen Tutunjian broke a 30-year school record in the triple jump.

Men’s Track and Field competes at West Point Saturday
The Lehigh men’s track and field team will compete in a six-team scoring meet Saturday with events slated to begin at 11 a.m. The Mountain Hawks will compete against host Army, Monmouth, Rider, Columbia and Williams. It will be Lehigh’s third meet of the season but will be the Mountain Hawks’ first scoring event as Lehigh returns to action for the first time in over a month.
