Mountain Hawks hand out team awards following strong season

Posted: 05/31/2011
BETHLEHEM, Pa – Lehigh’s men’s tennis team finished the 2011 season with a 15-7 overall record, while advancing to the Patriot League Championship match for the first time in school history. Earlier this month the Mountain Hawks congratulated three of their athletes on their academic and athletic performance during the season as freshman Mark Goldberg, senior Troy List and sophomore Andrew Krentz received team awards.

Krentz was named the program’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second straight year. The award is given to the student-athlete who in the eyes of his teammates exemplifies the ideal of the scholar-athlete. Krentz was named to the inaugural Patriot League All-Academic Team earlier this month. In two of his first three semesters at Lehigh, Krentz earned a perfect 4.0 GPA. In the 2010 fall semester, he earned a 3.91 GPA in Lehigh’s College of Arts and Sciences. Following the 2010 season, he made Academic Honor Roll and was a regular on the Dean’s List. On the court, Krentz went 13-6 in singles, playing primarily at No. 6. He began playing doubles late in the season and posted a 7-2 record playing alongside classmate Matt Savran at No. 2 doubles.

List, a team captain, received the Coaches Award, which is voted by the coaches and given to the athlete who has made significant contributions to the well being of the team in terms of attitude, improvement or leadership. List had a 14-8 record at No. 1 singles with a 3-3 mark Patriot League in the regular season matches. For the fourth consecutive time, List was named to the All-Patriot League teams, earning first team honors for the third straight year. List was named the Patriot League player of the month in February and March and was singled out for his leadership in guiding the Mountain Hawks to the championship match.

Goldberg was named the team’s Outstanding Athlete, which is given to the athlete who makes the most outstanding athletic contribution to the accomplishments of the team. Goldberg was a second team All-Patriot League selection after finishing his freshman season with a 17-2 singles record, including an 8-0 mark against Patriot League opposition. The Ohio native was named Lehigh’s Male Freshman Athlete of the Year at the Athletics Department’s annual honors convocation earlier this month.
