BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Following a strong season on the tennis courts, the Lehigh men’s tennis team enjoyed an equally strong year in the classroom as six Mountain Hawks were named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, announced Tuesday. Junior Edgars Rauza and sophomore Andrew Krentz led the way for Lehigh as they were two of seven Patriot League student-athletes to earn a 4.0 grade point average in the spring semester.
Rauza posted his 4.0 GPA majoring in finance, while Krentz is undeclared in Lehigh’s College of Arts and Sciences. Krentz was the Lehigh tennis team’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was named to the inaugural Academic All-Patriot League team last month.
Joining the two 4.0 GPA student-athletes on the honor roll were seniors Collin Laffey and Cameron Silbert, junior Ryan Krueger and sophomore Matt Savran.
A total of 35 men’s tennis student-athletes were named to the Academic Honor Roll, led by Navy’s Nick Birger, who was voted Scholar-Athlete of the Year. To be eligible for the honor roll, the student-athlete must have a 3.20 or higher grade-point average during the academic semester which coincides with his/her sport.
On the courts, the Mountain Hawks went 15-7 in 2011 and advanced to the Patriot League championship match for the first time in school history.
