BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Mountain Hawks will look for their first win of the season this weekend as they open the their home slate with a pair of matches against Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday and Saint Francis (Pa.) on Sunday inside the Lewis Tennis Center.
The Brown and White were swept last week as they opened their spring season at Penn State, though that did not discourage head coach Dave Shook, who was confident in his team after the match.
Sophomore Mark Goldberg looks to show why he was an All-League player in his freshman campaign after dropping a pair of close sets 7-6, 7-5 last week in State College. Goldberg is now slated as the Mountain Hawks’ number one singles and doubles player after going 17-2 at the No. 4 spot as a freshman. Freshman No. 2 Mitchell Peterson and junior No. 3 Matt Savran also hope to improve on their performances in the number two and three singles spots, respectively.
Peterson will join Goldberg on the first singles pair, while fellow freshman Ben Gilman will pair with Savran for the Mountain Hawk’s second tandem. Gilman also competed in the No. 4 singles spot last week.
Junior Andrew Krentz will look to add to his 24-13 career singles record in his third season. Krentz was the No. 5 hitter last week, and paired with Russian sophomore Timur Chernykh as the third doubles pair.
Fairleigh Dickinson will open its season Saturday, though the Knights were 2-0 with wins against Hofstra and Saint Joseph’s last fall. Saint Francis (Pa.) has dropped contests to Navy, Drexel, and UMBC to start the season. The Red Flash will host Bucknell on Friday before visiting Bethlehem on Sunday.
Lehigh will face off against Fairleigh Dickinson Saturday at 2 p.m. and will return to the Lewis Tennis Center Sunday to battle with Saint Francis at 10 a.m.
