BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men’s swimming and diving team has finished fourth at the last six Patriot League Championships and that’s where the Mountain Hawks were picked once again as the league announced its preseason poll on Friday. Lehigh garnered 59 points in the poll which is voted on by the league’s head coaches and sports information directors.
The Mountain Hawks followed up a 9-1 dual campaign in 2009-10 with another strong 8-2 dual season last year. Rob Herb enters his eighth year with a returning All-League selection in junior Frank Cuzzola and a strong senior class led by veterans Angelo DiGiacinto, Chris Toth and Kevin Shoemaker, plus an infusion of young talent from the 13 newcomers to the men’s program.
Winners of the last eight league titles, Navy was picked to win a ninth straight Patriot League Championship, earning 98 points and 14 first place votes. Army and Bucknell received the other two first place votes with the Black Knights picked second and the Bison third. Lehigh was followed in order by Colgate, Lafayette, American and Holy Cross.
The Mountain Hawks will hold their annual Brown and White meet on Friday September 30 before opening the regular season at Holy Cross on Sunday, October 9.
