Men’s soccer completes successful spring season
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men’s soccer team completed its spring season and head coach Dean Koski was pleased with the results. The Mountain Hawks went 3-0-1 while outscoring opponents 7-2.
"We were thin in training and in games with only 13 guys after graduating eight seniors, but I liked the way our guys responded and I am happy with how the spring went," said head coach Dean Koski, who will enter his 21st season at the helm in 2012. "We stayed reasonably healthy and I think the results were reflective of our effort. We tried out some new things and it was a productive spring and I was happy with the development of our players."
Lehigh tied Villanova 1-1 with the Mountain Hawks’ lone goal coming from sophomore Ben Borin. Lehigh then defeated Muhlenberg 1-0 as sophomore James Meyerkord found the back of the net. The Mountain Hawks defeated Temple 2-0 for its second straight shutout of the spring. Freshmen Michael Gonzalez and Brian Suchoski each provided a goal. To conclude, its spring season, Lehigh defeated the Alumni, 3-1 as Meyerkord scored a pair of goals while Suchoski added one.
"This spring also provided us with a chance to see some guys who didn’t play a lot in the fall and we liked how they were developing, getting a little stronger, faster and more mature," Koski said. "We still have a lot to work on, but right now it’s just a matter of our guys heading into the summer with the right mindset and staying on their summer programs. Then we can anticipate what freshman will able to step on and help us in the fall."
Lehigh is coming off a 2011 season in which the Mountain Hawks went 8-4-6 overall and 4-2-2 in the league, advancing to the Patriot League Semifinals. Lehigh had five student-athletes earn All-League honors. The Mountain Hawks were not only successful on the field, but off of it, placing 11 on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
