BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men’s soccer team placed 11 on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, which was announced Thursday. Four Mountain Hawks earned at least a 3.60 GPA, landing them on Lehigh’s Dean List as well, capping off Lehigh's stellar season on and off the pitch. Senior architecture major Christopher Rabey led the way with a 4.00 GPA, his second straight season on the league honor roll.

After Rabey, junior chemical engineering major Taylor Sulmonetti earned a 3.98 GPA, senior bioengineering major Daniel Odenwelder had a 3.88 GPA and freshman engineering major Brian Suchoski had a 3.85 GPA.

Senior environmental engineering major Neal Melchionni was also on the list as he earned a 3.44 GPA. On the field, Melchionni was named to the First Team All-Patriot League and also earned Second Team All-Mid-Atlantic honors.

To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average in the semester of their sport's competition.

Lehigh finished its 2011 season 8-4-6 highlighted by the program’s first-ever trip to California in which the Mountain Hawks more then held their own, tying No. 22 Cal 1-1 in double overtime and then defeating Stanford 1-0. Lehigh went 4-2-2 in league play and fell just short in the Patriot League Semifinals, losing on penalty kicks. The Mountain Hawks finished the season nationally ranked No. 2 in save percentage (.900), No. 3 in shutout percentage (0.61) and No. 3 in goals against average (0.41).

Lehigh will graduate six of the 11 student-athletes on the honor roll, but the Mountain Hawks will continue to look towards success on and off the field.
