Posted: 01/31/2012
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh men’s soccer team marked the end of its season with its annual banquet on Sunday, Jan. 15, in the University Center. The banquet was a chance to celebrate a season that saw the Mountain Hawks go 8-4-6 with five student-athletes being named All-Patriot League honorees. In addition, three awards were presented to the student-athletes who excelled on and off the field.

The Athlete of the Year, presented to senior Kevin Strunk, was awarded to the team member who made the most outstanding contribution to the success of the team. Strunk won the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season while successfully backing his 2011 Preseason Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year honor. He also earned First Team All-Patriot League honors. Strunk’s defensive efforts were a major reason for the team’s high nationally-ranked defense. He also showed versatility on offense in finishing third on the team with seven points (three goals and one assist). In addition to garnering All-Patriot League honors, Strunk was named an ECAC First Team All-Star and named to the All-Mid-Atlantic First Team.

The Scholar-Athlete of the Year, given to junior Taylor Sulmonetti, was awarded to the team member who combines outstanding work in the classroom with on-field success. The Georgia native carries a 3.79 GPA as a Chemical Engineering major. His academic achievements include being named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and Dean’s List.

The Coaches Award, which was presented to senior Jordie Ciuffetelli, was awarded to the team member who has made notable contributions to the team in areas of attitude, improvement and leadership. In starting all 18 games, Ciuffetelli demonstrated excellent teamwork and commitment. He was among the team leaders in minutes played while finishing with one point via an assist.
