Famili awarded Patriot League’s Defensive Player of the Week honor

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After anchoring a defense that racked up two consecutive shutout wins last week, sophomore Ali Famili earned the Patriot League’s Defensive Player of the Week award for the period ending on October 21. Famili and the rest of the Mountain Hawks put together back-to-back 1-0 victories over Yale and Holy Cross, as the Mountain Hawks have jumped to the fourth spot in the Patriot League rankings courtesy of their current three-game winning streak.

Over the 180 minutes of action against the Bulldogs and Crusaders, Famili helped choreograph a stellar net protection effort that allowed just six shots to reach junior keeper Ciaran Nugent. Lehigh held Yale to 13 shots on Tuesday, before allowing only six attempts to Holy Cross on Saturday night.

The shutout of Holy Cross was the first time the Crusaders had been held scoreless since a 4-0 loss at Boston University on September 18 and marked only the second time this season the Crusaders have not tallied a goal.

Famili has been a rock for the Lehigh defense this season, playing all 1271:44 this season, as well as contributing on the offensive side of the ball, scoring the game-winner against Navy on October 13.

Lehigh travels to College Park, Md. tomorrow night for a mid-week match-up with the top-ranked Maryland Terrapins which is slated for a 7:30 p.m. kick off.
