2012 men’s soccer season concludes with banquet
The Lehigh men’s soccer team wrapped up its 2012 season with its annual banquet held in the University Center on Sunday, December 9th, sponsored by the Lehigh Athletics Partnership. Three awards were presented to student-athletes who excelled on and off the field. The banquet included dinner, an awards presentation and a reflection on the season by head coach Dean Koski.

Lehigh represented on MAC 100 Men’s Soccer Century Team
Three former Lehigh University men’s soccer players were honored as a part of the MAC 100 Men’s Soccer Century Teams. All three were chosen from the 1912-1970 century team after the MAC (Middle Atlantic Conference) celebrated its 100th anniversary by naming a century team in each sport from each era of MAC history.

Lehigh soccer teams to offer FREE SoccerFest clinics on Sunday
The Lehigh University soccer teams will host a FREE SoccerFest clinic on Sunday, December 9 inside Rauch Fieldhouse for the second-consecutive week. All boys and girls soccer players ages 5-12 are invited to attend. Participants are not required to pre-register and are welcome to register at the door between 11:30-11:45 a.m. as the clinic will begin at 12 p.m.

Lehigh tied for second in initial Presidents' Cup standings
The Patriot League announced its initial Presidents’ Cup standings on Tuesday with Lehigh tied for second overall at the completion of the fall season. Lehigh checks in with 32 points and tops the men’s overall standings with 16 points. The Mountain Hawk women are tied for fifth place with 16 points.

Men’s soccer honored with NSCAA Academic Award
Following a strong year in the classroom, the Lehigh men’s soccer team was recognized for its stellar academic performance with a 2011-2012 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Academic Award, as announced earlier this month. The Mountain Hawks are one of just 220 men’s teams across Division I, II and III honored for posting a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Bishop signs professional contract with Harrisburg Heat
Former Lehigh men’s soccer standout goalkeeper Sam Bishop (2005) has signed a professional contract to play for the Harrisburg Heat of the Professional Arena Soccer League. Bishop had previously played professionally for the Harrisburg City Islanders of the United Soccer Leagues (USL) and was part of the Islanders team that won the USL-2 championship.

Famili garners first team All-Patriot League team honors
Sophomore back Ali Famili earned first team All-Patriot League honors after a solid 2012 performance as a part of the Mountain Hawk defense. Famili tallied the second-most minutes (1,469) for Lehigh this season, playing in 16 games and making 15 starts to help anchor a defense that allowed just 1.47 goals per game, which was good for fourth-best in the Patriot League.

Wysocki earns Patriot League weekly award
Lehigh junior midfielder Ben Wysocki earned the Patriot League’s Offensive Player of the Week honor after twice aiding the Mountain Hawks in erasing one-goal deficits on Saturday. He first assisted on Lehigh’s opening goal, and then scoring one of his own in dramatic fashion, recording his first three points of the year in arguably their most important match of the season.

Lehigh plays to draw in double overtime thriller with Army
After twice erasing one-goal deficits, the Lehigh men’s soccer team ended its 2012 campaign with a 2-2 draw against the Black Knights. The resilient Mountain Hawks battled back all night as freshman Ben Davis was the first to score on a header in the 48th minute to knot the score at one, and after an Army goal, junior Ben Wysocki found the back of the net for a dramatic equalizer in the 87th minute, but Lehigh could not find the back of the net a third time for the win.

After falling to American in a hard-fought, heartbreaking match last Saturday night, the Lehigh men’s soccer team will travel to West Point, N.Y. for its regular season finale against the Black Knights of Army. After creating a plethora of opportunities and outshooting the Eagles, 23-11, the Lehigh men’s soccer team fell to American Saturday night on a second half goal, 1-0. Junior James Meyerkord blasted seven shots, two of which were on the net, but he and the rest of the Mountain Hawks were unable to find the back of the goal despite immense pressure all night.

Despite an outstanding effort on the pitch tonight, the Lehigh men’s soccer team was edged by the top-ranked Maryland Terrapins on Tuesday night, 2-1. After Lehigh fell behind 1-0 in the first half, junior James Meyerkord’s second goal of the season evened the score as the Mountain Hawks took the No. 1 Terrapins to the brink of overtime before a goal with under three minutes sealed a win for Maryland.

The Lehigh men’s soccer team earned its second-consecutive victory after junior forward James Meyerkord found the back of the Yale net in the 88th minute for a 1-0 non-league win over the Bulldogs. Junior keeper Ciaran Nugent collected the shutout as he, and the rest of the Mountain Hawk defense turned away any opportunities by the Bulldogs throughout the match, while on the offensive side, Lehigh kept the ball inside the Yale zone for most of the contest.

Rylan Collins named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week
Lehigh sophomore Rylan Collins has been named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week for the period ending on October 14, following his three-point performance in Lehigh’s 2-1 win over Navy on Saturday. Collins scored the first goal of the game in the 12th minute and added an assist on classmate Ali Famili’s game-winner in the 72nd minute, as the Mountain Hawks earned their first Patriot League victory of 2012 and put themselves back into the hunt for the Patriot League Tournament.

Lehigh to play non-league match against Yale Tuesday
Fresh off its first Patriot League win of the season, the Lehigh men’s soccer team will travel to New Haven, CT for a non-league tilt against the Bulldogs of Yale on Tuesday before returning to Patriot League play on Saturday afternoon to host Holy Cross. The 10th-ranked Hoyas of Georgetown blanked the Lehigh men’s soccer team on Tuesday afternoon in non-league play, 2-0. Goals in the 11th and 47th minutes were enough for the Hoyas to escape with a win on their home turf. Although the Mountain Hawks consistently pressured the Lafayette defense, a late goal off a free kick for the Leopards was enough for the 1-0 win in the 109th edition of the Lehigh vs. Lafayette men’s soccer rivalry. The Lehigh defense was strong, keeping the Leopards at bay for the majority of the game as junior goalkeeper Ciaran Nugent finished with four saves on the night, while the rest of the defense limited the Lafayette opportunities.

Lehigh and Lafayette carry on rivalry 100 years after first match
The Lehigh men’s soccer team is halfway through the schedule of its 100th season as a varsity sport. The Mountain Hawks’ next opponent, Lafayette, was the only team Lehigh faced in its inaugural season of 1913. The Leopards’ 2-0 victory marked the beginning of a rivalry that has been played 108 times and at least once every season from 1913-2011, except for 1919 and 1920.

The Lehigh men’s soccer team will host the Bucknell Bison on Saturday night to begin its quest for the Patriot League crown. Lehigh men’s soccer senior captain Cameron Omsberg has been named a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award, as announced on Tuesday. He is one of only 30 players in the nation, and only one in the Patriot League, named to the prestigious list. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

The Lehigh men’s soccer team dropped a hard-fought match to regionally ranked Brown University on Sunday afternoon, 1-0. The Lehigh men’s soccer team fell to La Salle on Wednesday night at the hands of two second-half goals. Junior goalkeeper Ciaran Nugent stopped five Explorer shots and sophomore forward Brian Suchoski was able to get four shots-on-goal, but La Salle seemed to be at the right place at the right time to capitalize on fortunate bounces in the second half.

On the heels of a heartbreaking loss at Saint Peter’s, the Lehigh men’s soccer team is looking to bounce back when it travels to Philadelphia to take on the Drexel Dragons on Friday night. The Mountain Hawks scored two first half goals but the Peacocks rallied and forced the game into an extra session where Saint Peter’s was able to end the game on a score in the 98th minute. Now that Lehigh’s scoreless streak has been broken, the Mountain Hawks hope to get in the win column on Friday night.

Two late goals to tie the game and one in overtime spelled a loss for the Lehigh men’s soccer team on Tuesday. Brian Suchoski gave the Mountain Hawks a 2-0 lead after scoring two first half goals, including one just 2:14 into the game, but the offense struggled from then on. Saint Peter’s capitalized on second half opportunities to send the game into overtime where it defeated the Mountain Hawks in the extra period.

The Mountain Hawks dropped their 2012 season opener by a score of 2-0, to the Hofstra Pride. The loss is Lehigh’s first home defeat since Nov. 6, 2010, breaking an eight-game unbeaten streak. Junior goalkeeper Ciaran Nugent was able to stop 6-of-8 shots-on-goal but Lehigh’s offense struggled, testing Hofstra goalkeeper Roberto Pellegrini just one time.

With the fall season set to get underway on Friday, Lehigh Athletics has announced its fall broadcast schedule. For the third straight year Lehigh has partnered with Stretch Internet to deliver fans live action via the Lehigh GameCentral portal. Most men’s and women’s soccer, field hockey, and volleyball home contests will be broadcast live on the Lehigh web site as part of the GameCentral pay-per-view offering.

Men’s soccer completes successful spring season
The Lehigh men’s soccer team completed its spring season and head coach Dean Koski was pleased with the results. The Mountain Hawks went 3-0-1 while outscoring opponents 7-2, with three goals coming from sophomore James Meyerkord and two by freshman Brian Suchoski. Lehigh tied Villanova 1-1, then defeated Muhlenberg 1-0, Temple 2-0 and the Alumni 3-1.

The Lehigh men's soccer team will host its alumni soccer game on April 21 at Ulrich Sports Complex at 3 p.m. The game will be followed by a dinner reception at the Gander Room (above the Goose) at 5:30 p.m. The reception is for current players, soccer alumni, and immediate family. There is no cost.

Men’s soccer announces 2016 recruiting class
Lehigh men’s soccer head coach Dean Koski announced the Class of 2016 on Tuesday. After losing eight to graduation, the Mountain Hawks will welcome ten incoming student-athletes, five from different states (Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, North Carolina and California) and one from Spain.

Lehigh places 11 on Patriot League Academic Honor Roll
The Lehigh men’s soccer team placed 11 on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, which was announced Thursday. Four Mountain Hawks earned at least a 3.60 GPA, landing them on Lehigh’s Dean List as well, capping off Lehigh's stellar season on and off the pitch. Senior architecture major Christopher Rabey led the way with a 4.00 GPA, his second straight season on the league honor roll.

Lehigh looks back to 2011 at annual banquet
The Lehigh men’s soccer team marked the end of its season with its annual banquet on Sunday, Jan. 15, in the University Center. The banquet was a chance to celebrate a season that saw the Mountain Hawks go 8-4-6 with five student-athletes being named All-Patriot League honorees. In addition, three awards were presented to the student-athletes who excelled on and off the field.

Dr. Thomas Fleck Jr. memorial service being held Saturday
Dr. Thomas Fleck, Jr., who recorded a 57-52-10 record over nine years while at the helm for the Lehigh men’s soccer team, passed away on December 24, 2011, after a long battle with dementia. Fleck led the Mountain Hawks to the 1971 MAC Championship as Lehigh finished the season ranked No. 16 nationally. His memorial service will be held Saturday, January 21st at 1 p.m. in Florida.
