Poillon named National Rookie of the Week

Posted: 03/08/2012
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh freshman goalie Matt Poillon has been named Cascade Rookie of the Week, as announced by Inside Lacrosse Wednesday. A two-time Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week, Poillon allowed only 12 goals over two games in wins over #19 Penn and #4 North Carolina.
Each week, the Inside Lacrosse staff will highlight a standout performance from a freshman and announce them as Cascade Rookie of the Week on Wednesday.

Poillon has won two Patriot League Goalie of the Week awards in a four-week span, after he stopped 56 percent of the shots sent his way. He began by making seven saves on 11 shots at Penn, helping the Mountain Hawks open a 10-2 advantage on their way to a 10-4 win. Poillon then made eight stops at North Carolina Saturday, including one with only 27 seconds left that would have tied the score.

Poillon owns a stellar 5.72 GAA and 61.4 save percentage following a stellar effort at VMI when he only allowed two goals while making 10 stops. Lehigh is 5-1 on the season, off to its best start since 1997.

Lehigh returns home Sunday (1 p.m.) to host #15 Yale in a nationally-ranked showdown. The 16th-ranked Mountain Hawks then remain home to host Army on Saturday (Mar. 17) at 1 p.m. in their Patriot League opener.
