Poillon earns another National Rookie of the Week honor
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh freshman goalie Matt Poillon has garnered another award after a stellar 16-save performance in Sunday’s NCAA First Round Game. The Mount Sinai, N.Y. native earned his second Cascade Rookie of the Week honor, as announced by Inside Lacrosse on Wednesday. He tied a career high in saves, including six in the third quarter, to help the Mountain Hawks propel ahead of Maryland.
After the Terps took a 6-1 lead with 5:52 left in the first half, Poillon came up big, holding them scoreless for the next 22:26. That let the Lehigh offense score seven straight goals and take an 8-6 advantage.
Poillon ends his rookie campaign with a stellar 6.75 GAA (currently second in the nation) and 59.7 save percentage (fourth). The Patriot League Goalie of the Year was named the league’s Goalkeeper of the Week four times and Rookie of the Week twice.
Lehigh has garnered three Cascade Rookie of the Week awards this season - two by Poillon and one by Patrick Corbett after three goals and an assist at Navy.
