NCAA Selection Show set for Sunday at 9 p.m. on ESPNU
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Patriot League Champion and #7 nationally-ranked Lehigh will find out its NCAA Tournament fate on Sunday night during the 2012 NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Selection Show. The selection show is set for 9 p.m. on ESPNU and ESPN3.com. The Mountain Hawks earned the league’s automatic bid to the tournament with their thrilling 16-14 win over 10th-ranked and top-seeded Colgate on Sunday.
Lehigh head coach Kevin Cassese will be one of four coaches interviewed live by the ESPN crew of Anish Shroff, Quint Kessenich and Paul Carcaterra, along with UMass’ Greg Cannella, Loyola’s Charley Toomey and Johns Hopkins’ Dave Pietramala.
Following Sunday’s win, the Mountain Hawks jumped in the national rankings, from #9 in the Coaches Poll and #8 in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse Media Poll, all the way to seventh in both rankings. Lehigh was also ranked #6 by Quint Kessenich and as high as fourth by Eamon McAnaney in his weekly power rankings on SNY.tv.
Sunday’s win gave Lehigh its first Patriot League Tournament Championship and the school’s first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. The opening round of the tournament is next weekend, with four games on Saturday (May 12) and four on Sunday (May 13). Games are set for 12:00, 2:30, 5:00 and 7:30 Saturday and 1:00, 3:00, 5:15, 7:30 Sunday. The first game each day will air on ESPN while the other six contests are set for ESPNU, with all eight also broadcast online through ESPN3.com.
The Quarterfinal sites are set for Annapolis, Md. (Navy Marine-Corps Memorial Stadium) the following Saturday and Chester, Pa. (PPL Park) Sunday with the National Semifinals and Championship set for Memorial Day Weekend at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass.
