Poillon and Cassese earn major awards; eight named All-Patriot League
Following a historic regular season, the Lehigh men’s lacrosse team has racked in a number of Patriot League honors, as announced by the league on Tuesday. Freshman Matt Poillon was named Goalie of the Year, head coach Kevin Cassese garnered Coach of the Year, while eight were named All-League. The eight All-League honorees tied for most in school history, tying the original record set in 1995.

Mountain Hawks continue to rise in national polls
Following Saturday’s dominant 16-6 win over Lafayette, the Lehigh men’s lacrosse team has risen to #8 in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse Media Poll and #9 in the USILA Coaches Poll, released Monday. All four of the teams in this weekend’s Patriot League Tournament have cracked the media poll with Colgate standing 10th, Bucknell 18th and Army 19th.

#12/10 Lehigh ties wins record with dominant 16-6 win at Lafayette
The #12/10 Lehigh men’s lacrosse team dominated from the opening whistle and wouldn’t look back as the Mountain Hawks (12-2, 5-1 Patriot League) downed Lafayette, 16-6, in their regular season finale Saturday. With the victory, Lehigh enters next weekend’s Patriot League Tournament winners of 11 of their last 12 games. The 12 wins have tied a school record - previously accomplished in 1994 - while the five league wins have set a new school mark.

#12/10 Lehigh visits Lafayette Saturday for regular season finale
Coming off a thrilling last-second win over 18th-ranked Bucknell, the #12/10 Lehigh men’s lacrosse team wraps up the regular season on Saturday when it travels to Lafayette. Faceoff against the archrival Leopards (3-9, 1-4 Patriot League) is set for 2 p.m. in Fisher Stadium. The Mountain Hawks (11-2, 4-1) look to tie a school record for wins in a season, while entering next weekend’s Patriot League Tournament with their 11th win in their last 12 games.

Noone and Poillon earn Patriot League weekly honors
Following Saturday’s thrilling 9-8 win over Bucknell, Lehigh men’s lacrosse junior Mike Noone and freshman Matt Poillon earned Patriot League Defensive and Rookie of the Week, as announced on Monday. Junior Dante Fantoni, who scored the game-winning goal, also earned honorable mention recognition. In addition, the Mountain Hawks moved up to #10 in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse Media Poll while dropping to 12th in the USILA Coaches Poll.

Last-second goal gives #11 Lehigh 9-8 win over #18 Bucknell
Junior Dante Fantoni rifled a shot past Kyle Feeney with just 14 seconds remaining to give the #11 Lehigh men’s lacrosse team a thrilling 9-8 win over #18 Bucknell in front of a facility-record 2,096 fans on Saturday night. The Mountain Hawks (11-2, 4-1 Patriot League) continually fought back from deficits until Fantoni’s goal put Lehigh up for good. Fantoni and senior Roman Lao-Gosney led the way, each posting a team-high two goals and an assist.

Cameron and Roman Lao-Gosney: In it together
Cameron and Roman Lao-Gosney are not typical teammates. The Lehigh co-captains are fraternal twins who started playing lacrosse in high school at Hebron Academy in Maine. They were the first recruits of fifth-year head coach Kevin Cassese, and have helped transform the program into a contender not only in the Patriot League, but also nationally. Through hard work and determination, the Lao-Gosneys have created a culture of winning. And through thick and thin, they’ve been in it together.

#11 Lehigh set for big Senior Night clash vs. #18 Bucknell Saturday
Following a tough overtime loss at Colgate, the 11th-ranked Lehigh men’s lacrosse team looks to bounce back when it returns home to host #18 Bucknell Saturday on Senior Night. Opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Ulrich Sports Complex. The Mountain Hawks (10-2, 3-1) and Bison (9-4, 3-1) are tied for first place in the Patriot League standings (along with Colgate).

#7 Lehigh drops 11-10 overtime heartbreaker at #17/16 Colgate
The #7 Lehigh men’s lacrosse men’s lacrosse team saw its program-record nine-game winning streak come to an end in heartbreaking fashion, dropping an 11-10 overtime final to #17/16 Colgate on Saturday. The Mountain Hawks (10-2, 3-1 Patriot League) took a 10-8 lead with 5:10 left in regulation, but the Raiders scored the final three goals to snatch the victory. Freshman Matt Poillon made a career-high 16 saves between the pipes, including one with time winding down in regulation.

#7 Lehigh heads to #17/16 Colgate Saturday for big league clash
The Lehigh men’s lacrosse team looks to continue its historic season Saturday when it travels to #17/16 Colgate to face one of its biggest challenges to date. Faceoff in Andy Kerr Stadium is set for 2 p.m. Saturday will feature the nation’s top scoring defense (Lehigh) against the top offense (Colgate). The Mountain Hawks hope to contain the Raiders’ Peter Baum, who is the top scorer in the country (42 goals and 13 assists in 10 games).

Corbett named Cascade National Rookie of the Week
Following a four-point effort last Friday at Navy, Lehigh freshman attackman Patrick Corbett has earned his second honor of the week, garnering Cascade Rookie of the Week laurels as announced by Inside Lacrosse on Wednesday. Corbett is Lehigh’s second national rookie of the week of the season, along with goalie Matt Poillon who earned the honor last month.

Riding nine straight victories and the most wins in the nation, the Lehigh men’s lacrosse team remained #7 in both the USILA Coaches Poll and Nike/Inside Lacrosse Media Poll released Monday. In addition, junior defenseman Mike Noone was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week while freshman attackman Patrick Corbett garnered Rookie of the Week laurels, marking the fifth straight week at least one Lehigh player has earned a weekly award.

The Lehigh men’s lacrosse team dug out of an early 4-1 hole with a vengeance, scoring eight unanswered goals to run past #19 Navy, 9-4, on Friday evening. The Mountain Hawks (10-1, 3-0 Patriot League) held the Midshipmen (5-4, 3-2) scoreless for the game’s final 40:02 in yet another dominant defensive effort.

Riding the nation’s longest winning streak and the most wins in the country, the #7 Lehigh men’s lacrosse team heads to #19 Navy for a Friday night showdown against the Midshipmen, who are riding a four-game winning streak of their own. Opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m. The tilt will take center stage as the only Division I men’s lacrosse game of the day; it will also air live nation-wide on CBS Sports Network with Dave Ryan and Steve Panarelli on the call.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The red-hot Lehigh men’s lacrosse team continues to garner both team and individual recognition as a result of its historic start to the 2012 season. The Mountain Hawks jumped to No. 7 in both major polls following victories over No. 17 Penn State and Patriot League rival Holy Cross last week. Junior Mike Noone was recognized as the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, and freshman Matt Poillon earned Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week for the fourth time this season.

The #11/10 Lehigh men’s lacrosse team jumped out to a 5-0 lead and wouldn’t look back in downing Holy Cross, 12-3 on Saturday for its school-record eighth straight win. With the victory, the Mountain Hawks improve to 9-1 on the season (2-0 in the Patriot League), currently owning the most wins in the nation, while setting a school record for their best start in school history.
