The Lehigh men’s golf team showed improvement on day two of the NCAA Tempe Regional. Four of the five Mountain Hawks bettered their first round scores as Lehigh shot 295 Friday at the ASU Karsten Golf Course. The Mountain Hawks were 15 over par on Friday and remain in 14th place at 36 over par 596 (301-295).
In its first appearance in the NCAA Regional, the Lehigh men’s golf team held things together through the front nine, but the Mountain Hawks ran into collective trouble on the back nine to shoot 301 in round one Thursday at the ASU Karsten Golf Course. Battling 100-degree heat and desert conditions, the Mountain Hawks are 14th out of 14 teams in the field after 18 holes in the Regional.
The Lehigh men’s golf team prepares to make its first ever NCAA appearance as the Mountain Hawks head to Tempe, Ariz. for the NCAA Tempe Regional beginning Thursday. The three-day, 54-hole event will be played on the 7,036-yard, par-70 ASU Karsten Golf Course.
The Lehigh men’s golf team won its first Patriot League Championship since 1997 back on April 28. Monday night, the Mountain Hawks learned that they will head to Tempe, Arizona for their first NCAA Regional appearance as Lehigh was announced as one of 14 teams that will compete on the ASU Karsten Golf Course May 16-18.
The Patriot League men’s golf championship came down to the wire and Lehigh matched Navy’s final round score of 303 to hold off the Mids by seven strokes and win the program’s first Patriot League Championship since 1997 Sunday on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club. The Mountain Hawks finished at 299-296-303-898 to win the title on their home course.
