BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Sophomore Andrew Arnold was Lehigh’s top finisher at last weekend’s Patriot League Championship, tying for sixth place at 11 over par 211. On Thursday, Arnold was one of five players voted to the Academic All-Patriot League team, honoring those who successfully best combined golf with their academics.

Arnold put together rounds of 75, 75 and 71 at the league championship at the Bucknell Golf Course. His final round 71 was the low round for a Mountain Hawk player on the weekend. For the season, Arnold held a stroke average of 76 in 18 rounds. The Landisville, Pa. native competed in eight of Lehigh’s nine events in the 2011-12 season. Arnold posted three top-six finishes this season, all of which came in the spring season. Prior to his sixth place finish at the league championship, Arnold tied for second in the 18-hole Lehigh Valley Collegiate and finished fourth at the Lafayette Invitational, powered by a final round 69, his low round of the season.

Academically, Arnold carries a 3.28 grade point average in Lehigh’s P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science. He is a three-time recipient of Lehigh’s Faculty Athletics Council Academic Award for having three semesters over a 3.2 GPA and was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll for men’s golf following his freshman campaign.

Bucknell Junior J.J. Szmadzinski was voted the league’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the league’s sports information directors. He and Arnold were joined on the Academic All-League team by Army’s Matt Phillie, Navy’s Peter Reilly and Colgate’s Will Zabel.
