Hall named a finalist for Senior CLASS Award

Posted: February 3, 2010

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh senior captain Marquis Hall has been named one of ten men’s finalists for the 2009-10 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, it was announced on Wednesday.  To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – classroom, character, community and competition.  Joining Hall on the list is an accomplished group of student-athletes from schools such as Gonzaga, West Virginia, Notre Dame, Texas, Purdue, Michigan State, Duke, Drake and Northern Iowa.  Nationwide balloting begins immediately to determine the winner and Lehigh fans can vote for Hall by visiting the award’s official website, located here.

Hall has put together one of the finest careers for a Lehigh basketball player in school annals.  A native of Portland, Oregon, Hall is the school’s all-time leader in assists and is currently 11th in scoring.  He is the first player in Patriot League men’s basketball history with 1,300 points and 500 assists and has started every game but one during his time in the Brown and White.  A three time captain, Hall was the 2007 Patriot League Rookie of the Year after garnering a league record nine Rookie of the Week honors.  He followed that up with a Second Team All-League selection in 2008 and a First Team nod in 2009.

Hall has been equally impressive off the court where he maintains a 3.39 grade point average as a Finance major and he’s made multiple appearances on the Dean’s List and Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.  In 2009 Hall became Lehigh’s first-ever Patriot League Scholar Athlete of the Year in the sport of men’s basketball.  He is also an active member of Lehigh’s award winning C.O.A.C.H. program (community outreach) and a multi-year member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.  The finalists were chosen by a media committee from the list of 30 men’s candidates who were announced in October.

Lowe’s, an official Corporate Partner of the NCAA, will announce the Senior CLASS Award winners, one men’s basketball student-athlete and one women’s basketball student-athlete, during the 2010 NCAA Men’s and Women’s Final Fours in early April.

Along with Hall, the 2009-10 men’s finalists are: Matt Bouldin (Gonzaga University); De’Sean Butler (West Virginia University); Luke Harangody (University of Notre Dame); Damion James (University of Texas at Austin); Adam Koch (Northern Iowa University); Chris Kramer (Purdue University); Raymar Morgan (Michigan State University); Jon Scheyer (Duke University); and Josh Young (Drake University).

These ten names will be placed on the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award basketball ballot for a nationwide vote beginning today and concluding March 22.  Fan balloting will be available on the award’s official website, which can be found here, as well as through text messaging.  Fans can text MBBALL to 74567 to vote for men’s finalists.  These votes will be combined with votes from coaches and media to determine the recipient of the award.
