BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Junior captain Marquis Hall was named to the 2009 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District First-Team, it was announced on Thursday. Hall maintains a 3.43 grade point average as a finance major, and is Lehigh’s leading scorer this season at 14.1 points per game. The Oregon native recently scored his 1,000th career point and is second in the Patriot League in assists. Hall, who was the only Patriot League men’s basketball student-athlete honored, will now move onto the national Academic All-America ballot.
Hall has started all 21 games for Lehigh this season, hitting for double figures in 12 of those contests. His best game came in late November when he torched Rutgers for 28 points and a career-high 15 rebounds as Lehigh downed a Big East opponent for the first time in school history. Hall has led the Mountain Hawks in scoring ten times this season and in assists 16 times. He netted the 1,000th point of his career in Lehigh’s win over archrival Lafayette and backed that up with the game-winning shot in a win over Bucknell.
The 2007 Patriot League Rookie of the Year and a 2008 All-League selection, Hall is also a nominee for the 2009 Bob Cousy Award, given annually to the nation’s top guard in college basketball.
Off the floor, the two-time captain is a multi-year member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and Dean’s List. He also serves on the committee board of Lehigh’s award-winning community outreach program, C.O.A.C.H.
Hall and his Mountain Hawk teammates will be back in action on Saturday evening, February 7 when they take on the defending Patriot League champion American Eagles at Stabler Arena. Tip-off is set for 7:05 and tickets can be purchased in one of three ways: by calling 610-7LU-GAME, by visiting the Lehigh Athletics Ticket Office, located in Grace Hall, or by logging onto Lehighsports.com.
