Kids Night events highlight Lehigh-Lafayette tilt

Posted: January 21, 2008

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men’s basketball will host Kids Night, one of the annual highlights of the Lehigh home schedule, Saturday night when the Mountain Hawks host arch-rival Lafayette at 7 p.m. Activities will include Lehigh inflatables such as  the moon bounce, free throw challenge, and quarterback challenge.  There will also be a crawl-through for kids under eight years of age. Members of Lehigh’s Hawks Nest student section will be applying temporary tattoos and brown and white face paint free of charge.  The Mountain Hawk mascot will be on hand, as well as some of his friends: Screwball of the Reading Phillies, Holly Jolly the Clown, Outkast of the Lehigh Valley Outlawz indoor football team, and several well-known cartoon characters.

Saturday’s game is also men’s basketball Alumni Night featuring many former players, including members of the 1988 ECC Championship team to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Lehigh’s NCAA tournament appearance.

Frenchtown & Milford co-ed basketball will participate in a halftime game on the Stabler Arena floor, while youth groups from Lehigh Township, Souderton-Harleysville, and Bethlehem will also be in attendance.

Finally, long-time Lehigh public address announcer Bill McCoach will be honored pre-game for his 20 straight years of service. Mr. McCoach has never missed a Lehigh basketball game – he announced his 500th consecutive game last month, and many of Lehigh’s current and former student-athletes are expected to be on hand for this special ceremony.

“The Lehigh-Lafayette rivalry is rich in tradition and provides for a great college basketball atmosphere”, said Lehigh head coach Brett Reed. “Honoring both the 1988 team and Bill McCoach provide an excellent exclamation point to an already exciting night of basketball. This event should provide an opportunity for the entire family to enjoy.”

After the game, Lehigh men’s basketball players will also be signing autographs for all kids in attendance.

Tickets are only $5 in advance and $8 at the door.  Lower level seats are already sold out for this game, and the best upper level chairbacks are selling quickly.  Students and faculty/staff are reminded that their Lehigh ID gains them free admittance to the game.
