McCollum named honorable mention Mid-Major All-American

Posted: 03/30/2011
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh sophomore C.J. McCollum continues to garner postseason recognition as he was recently named a CollegeHoops.net Mid-Major All-American. McCollum is one of two Patriot Leaguers on the list, joining Bucknell’s Mike Muscala, who also received honorable mention laurels. This already marks McCollum’s third national honor after cracking the USBWA and NABC All-District teams earlier this month.

A year after earning Patriot League Player and Rookie of the Year, McCollum continued to impress, jumping all the way to 21.8 points per game, good for ninth in the nation. He also finished third in the Patriot League in rebounding (7.8) while his 2.5 steals per game are good for 12thnationally.

McCollum has already earned a pair of All-District honors, garnering NABC First Team All-District for a second straight year before being named a United States Basketball Writers Associate All-District honoree. He was joined on the USBWA District II squad by nine other individuals - six from the Big East and one from the Big Ten, CAA and Atlantic 10. McCollum joined the likes of Talor Battle (Penn State), Corey Fisher (Villanova), Austin Freeman (Georgetown), Ashton Gibbs (Pittsburgh), Dwight Hardy (St. John’s), Rick Jackson (Syracuse), Charles Jenkins (Hofstra), Andrew Nicholson (St. Bonaventure) and Brad Wanamaker (Pittsburgh) on that list.

The Canton, Ohio native was named a First Team All-Patriot League selection for a second straight season while also garnering a spot on the Patriot League All-Tournament Team for the second time in as many years. He set a league single-season record with six Player of the Week awards, including one stretch of four in a row.

McCollum eclipsed 1,000 career points against Army in January, becoming the first active sophomore in the nation to reach that milestone. With 1,308 points, he is only 916 away from the Patriot League career record. McCollum is also almost halfway to the Lehigh career scoring record (2,703) held by Daren Queenan.
