BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh men’s basketball team will play in the College Basketball Invitational (CBI) and will travel to Wyoming for a Tuesday night showdown with the Cowboys. This marks the Mountain Hawks’ third national postseason appearance in the last four years. Lehigh finished the season 21-9, 10-4 in Patriot League play while advancing to the league semifinals for a fourth straight season.
“It’s a great honor for our program to be able to play in the postseason,” said Lehigh head coach Brett Reed. “There are a lot of teams who wish they could be playing basketball right now. We were able to get the invitation. I’m pleased we’ve been able to progress to the point where we can keep playing at this point of the year.”
Lehigh’s game will tip at 7 p.m. locally (9 p.m. ET) on AXS.TV (formally HD Net). AXS.TV is Service Electric channel 622 and Direct TV channel 340. The Lehigh-Wyoming winner faces the winner of North Dakota State and Western Michigan in the CBI Quarterfinals.
“There are some good programs [in the CBI] and it’s a great opportunity for us to continue to showcase ourselves,” said Reed.
Last season’s CBI Champion was Pittsburgh while Butler, Oregon State and Washington State joined the Panthers as Semifinalists. VCU won the CBI Championship the year before making the Final Four.
Wyoming is 19-13 on the season and was one of the final four undefeated teams in the nation at 13-0. The Cowboys went 5-13 in the challenging Mountain West Conference, which produced five NCAA Tournament teams.
Lehigh has been practicing all weekend preparing for the postseason.
“There’s been a positive energy in the gym,” said Reed. “We’ve had the opportunity to improve collectively as a team. Our players have embraced the opportunity, the spirit’s been good. We’ve had the right mental approach in these practices and it’s been a pleasant thing to experience.”
